Making Cassava Suman; We are a team of Workers

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY19 hours ago

Last night, I and my family was very busy, it started back in Christmas day when we went to the farm to help plant corn and do things( I had to write about this one too, In fact I have so much to write but I have too little time). My sister and her family went home the day before Christmas and came at night and then afer a few minutes of taking with my mom, they went to his husband's sister's place and they soent the night there. Honestly, I was offended by their act because my mom had been waiting for so long for them to come but there there they were, ignoring my mum during a very special day. But whatever, what's done was done and I'd just shake it off nalang.

Back to last night, I arrived early from work, my daughter are still not around because they are still at the farm. Then when they came, everybody was on the table, my mum was doing the banana leaves, my sister and her daughter shreded the cassava using a makeshift shredder from a tin can that is poked by nails many times. My sister and her family are going
to the beach the next day so we got so busy helping them too. We helped (kid of dorced my husband to) not because I am kind but because I wanted to have some when its done

That was dinner time, I was already hungry and my husband was preparing Vegetable soup and we had dinner at home. We had a little talk and decided to help them on their work. We did not join them since my sister already prepared food food for them and we wanted fiber that day.

They are half done when we arrived, all that cassava has been shredded(ground) and my nephew is already preparing the pineapple filling. And my mum is wiping the he dust from pthe banana leaves so we could use it to wrap the delicacy.

That's my family, and I was not in the frame, the down side of a photographer (as if I am one). My sister's kids were taught to help and Laling was very interested in helping too.

I was really very serious but then when I took a picture, my brother in law moved and I caught his shining shimmering bald head which he thought I did on purpose and everyone laughed.

It was indeed very bright, no wonder my sister always have a bright da5yeven when the weather is gloomy. lol!

Anyway, we worked as a team and this is what I like about my sister and her family because our collaboration makes chores easy and light because we are a team of workers.

It was very lovely to be with them, we talked while we worked, we had so much fun and I was delighted that my husband helped us even though it was his first time doing it, Czak and Chielly made a great effort to work too but soon they surrendered as their little feer felt tired from standing for a long time.

Alexis and Andrea took turns on cooking; when cooking the filling, mixing it always is a must but Andrea was caught on her phone and burnt the bottom of the pan

But all was still good yet it turned out we had too much fillings so we adjusted the proportions of the cassava and its fillings being wrapped on the banana leaf.

We finished our work past 11 pm, well that's when I went home to rest but they were still cooking. Perhaps I slept deep to not notice anything. In the morning, I was very excited to wake up and pair my coffee with suman-binggala and so it did happen!

I was honestly cracing for this because it is my mum's especialty and the last time they made it, nothing was left for me.

My sister and her family along with thier church mates soon went to the beach, they planned on taking my daughters and mum with them and theygot excited but The thought that easterlies and shearline are affecting our weather, I did not let them go with them. Last year, they also went to the same beach the same season, I got afraid when I saw the video they took because the waves were strong that time sue to typhoon that affected thr country. My kids got disappointment at me, but akter on they'll understand that I was doing it for their safety as well as my peace of mind.

Have you eaten cassava suman before?

Sort:

Oh my, it's been a while since I had that! Now I'm craving!

Okay..okay.. let me laugh a little 🤣🤣 goodness.. with your brother's head, you can save some lamps😉 don't tell him. I did make this kinda joke with my bald friends only when we're at a private room with close friends only🤣

By the way, you didn't write anything about what's the filling for the shredded casavas? In my hometown, we add banana or sweetened shredded coconuts with sliced jackfruit.

I like how your family spent their time together as teamwork 👍🤗
Oohh.. in my hometown, even before the tsunami 20 years ago, we were told not to swim at the beach in December because the wind is strong and the waves are too big and high.
