Communities Experiment: Three Pictures and Ice Castle

in London5 years ago (edited)

Re-posted from my blog. Please see note at the end.

I slept in. After two long days travelling, I slumbered past the sunrise and woke to a bright overcast sky. Each day, the light comes another two minutes earlier. In the space of week, another 27 minutes of light is added to our day.

The second day I was at London Councils meeting their Strategy Director to talk about the London VAWG Consortium. We covered what had happened since 2010 and the scars that had created before we moved to what's happening now and ideas about the future. The next four years sound very hopeful. We can make some big changes.

Source London Councils HQ at 591/2 Southwark Street, just down the road from the Thames, London Bridge and the Tate Modern. Previously a bank, I wondered where the other half of the building was.

There were three beautiful photographs by Marshall Pinsent in the reception of London Councils. Marshall Pinsent is an award-winning photographer based in south-east London. He is primarily interested in coastal, inland and urban landscape.

Marshall Pinsent - The Thames from Richmond Hill.jpg
'The Thames from Richmond Hill' The only view in England to be protected by an Act of Parliament, this view is much the same now as it was when it was painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds and W M Turner some 200 years ago.

Marshall Pinsent - The Royal Victoria Docks.jpg
'The Royal Victoria Docks' At one time the busiest of the London docks, today the surrounding buildings have been developed into businesses, apartments and an exhibition centre.

Marshall Pinsent - Derelict Wharf at Erith.jpg
'Derelict Wharf at Erith' There is a strange beauty in the desolate remains of the riverside industrial heritage that can still be seen along the eastern reach of the river.

Shani Lee - The Shard lit up like the Snow Queen's Ice Castle.jpg Afterwards, I made my way down the road to Tate Modern. It was dark when I came out and, in the distance, I could see the Shard, lit up like the Snow Queen's Ice Castle.

You can see more of Marchall Pinsent's work at Image Pod.

Notes on the Experiment

I've used an old (but recent) blog post to experiment with using the features in Communities (and also to provide some content for the new community). I'm confused by sharing, cross-posting and re-steeming ... which does what?
I also want to see where this post appears and what rewards, if any, it earns :) Forgive me if I'm clogging up your feed or taking advantage of your generosity. It's all in the interests of science ;)~

Thank you @bdvoter - good to see you!

I am also thinking of experimenting so I will make sure to follow you and thanks so much, perhaps adding the tag community/steem would help?

Ah, interesting point, I didn't change the tags 😍

Interesting ramble about London and some quite evocative photos. For sure there are things we overlook in our busy days but sometimes it pays to just stop and gaze and look awhile.

Yes, indeed 😊
