Advent Lego Build of the Home Alone House (with bonus beer drinking) Days 11-13

in LEGO2 years ago

Welcome back again to the ongoing story of my advent which involves 24 cans of Australian craft beer from a retailer called Carwyn Cellars in Melbourne and the building of Kevin McCallister's house from Home Alone, also in advent (24 steps forms)

The previous posts can be found here:

Part 1 - Days 1-3
Part 2 - Days 4-7
Part 3 - Days 8-10

So we are up to Day 11

Day 11
Garage project Pud
We seem to have entered the section of 'not Australian breweries but craft breweries that started overseas and now brew at least part of their range in Australia) Garage Project are out of Wellington in New Zealand and have over many years proven to be very very good at what they do so I had high hopes for a Christmas pudding stout, but this is actually a little disappointing. It’s boozy but there not much going on 3.5/5

And as for the house, well we have build the entire bottom story, this is a little like a dools house in that the front opens up so you can see all of the details inside so two front room both open up, I've opens who so you can see inside and left one closed so you can see the outside. As you can see it's super detailed in there, the christmas tree is awesome, the moving Michael Jordan the classic looks - so good.

Day 12

Wayward are a brewery from Sydney, and this is their offering for the 12th of December - Cash Money which is a dry hopped saison - it’s like a very light pale ale, it’s okay but it’s just that okay without being anything - 3.5/5.0

We have started on the second story - this is actually built separately but I've show it on top of the first story for reasons which made sense to me - in terms of a build a pretty boring day today, a set of stairs and a a big tan floor. I should mentioned that each day is about a 15 minute build which is enough to drink maybe half of the beer. I should also mention that myself and my wife are building and drinking together, hence why the glass is always half empty (we are drinking half a can each) as for building, well one of us actually builds and the other sequences, i.e. finds the pieces for the next step - that person also chooses the music.

Day 13

Philter continues the Sydney run of breweries, there beer is Christmas vacation-bock which seems to be a National Lampoons Christmas Vacation pun - maybe next year we can build the Girswald's woody station wagon. The beer is a traditional weizenbock and it’s bloody great, the right amount a hay and toffee and goodness 4.25/5

And the building, well I guess this is a the problem with building houses, there are just so many walls, and brown walls at that. I guess the arched window is kind of cool, and the shelves which you can see on the left do have a nice feature - if you pull a knob behind the wall this 'fall' which is clever.

I must admit I haven't seen Home Alone for a very long time - but I will be seeing it tomorrow night, in a longish story somehow I'm got tickets to see the Melbourne Symphony orchestra play the live score as they play the film - but more on that in the next post (which will be back over in the Beer community - likely for Beer Saturday)

Happy building people

Great to see the house coming along! And the beer's enjoyed. I have a box of random beer courtesy of my daughter, and she admitted that a lot of the choices were based on the can's art. If I saw that Christmas bock I'd be tempted to try it, too!
