I'm back reworking the pieces from the Chinese Temple Set which I first spoke about here
The first thing I wanted to do is turn the temple into a gateway like you get in the Chinatown in many many cities around the world.
This basically involved removing the bottom third of the temple and changing it from a solid wall with steps to putting it up on poles, which was a little harder than it looked as the top of this is quite heavy.
In an effort to make the top a little lighter I created a few more openings - I like those bowls.
My thinking is that it's a road going through the middle and footpaths at the side I suppose it's a combination of the two chinatown gates we have in Melbourne
But the biggest issue is the temple was designed as a facade only, the backside was a bit of a mess and gates are to viewed from two sides so I spent a look of time putting trinkets and decoration on the back of the arch
But then finished with that I wondered what else could I make.
I had a fair amount of white pieces, mainly from the bottom of the temple which I'd just taken apart so I started to play around with them, and quickly worked out you could make a micro scale temple type building, as I went I realised that it was ending up a like a pagoda - which I think is apt culturally given where we started
And finally I was playing around with the red printed tiles (which I believe say'Happiness and Fortune' and some of the left over red poles I realised that they would make a pretty darn cool four poster bed, with chinese quilt. Add some pillows, some tassles on the canopy and bedside tables and you have yourself a design that uses just 11 different pieces which has to be one of the smallest ones I've ever designed.
This set just keeps on giving, between myself and my wife (who put together the original set as technically it is hers) we have to be about hour 12 or 13 of building and I don't think we are done yet, she seems to be working on a strange African/tribal/voodoo dool things which has me quite intrigued.
This is a pretty good rework. I like what you did with the four-poster bed, that worked really well. All looks good though. Nice work.
Yeah, sometimes the simplest builds are the most satisfying.
I agree. I've been doing a few little freestyle builds lately. Nothing worth showing here, but enjoyable for sure. Something relaxing about sifting through those bricks.
I like to see builders create alternate designs for their projects. The gateway looks so authentic. Thanks for sharing.
