It is hard to believe that it has been more than six years since I photographed my very first wedding, and what a day that was, I had the pleasure and pressure of doing the photos for my big brothers big day... and being a big newbie to photographing people and knowing my settings... it was a lot of pressure to capture the precious memories perfectly. Looking back on these photos, I wish I could go back and capture the day again with the newly developed skills I have now, but I also love the raw imperfectness of them... just how raw and imperfect true love is I guess.
I wanted to share some of my favourite monochrome pictures of the people moments of the day and some of my favourite portrait shots.
The best part of any wedding is seeing the grooms face sparkle and shine the moment he lays eyes on his gorgeous bride walking towards him. Capturing this incredible photo of the grooms face lighting up with a bright smile was my favourite photo of the day - how happy does he look?
~A Vow To You
In your eyes,
I see my home,
Together,
Never more alone.
With this vow,
Our hearts are true,
Forever,
I`ll belong to you.
As I look back, especially at the dancing photos, it is clear that I have learned so much since my first wedding. The technical skills I have gained, the confidence in myself and the deeper understanding I have with my camera and its inner workings. I have learned so much in the past six years however this wedding and its photos still hold such a special place in my heart. My approach has evolved and my skills have improved but the heart of wedding photography stays the same, it's capturing this fleeting moments of love, joy and connection that write the story of a couples most special day.
So here's to six years of growth, learning and celebrating love through my lens... and to another six to come!
