One time in June last year. I noticed the wild berry trees in the forest starting to bear lots of fruit. It is the fruit that hummingbirds like the most. There was a lot of fruit that fell on the ground after the hummingbirds came to sip the juice, but the birds were still kind and left some for other inhabitants of the forest, such as langurs or wild monkeys. But as if they didn't want to be ahead of the noisy creatures, the jewel beetle came early, wanting to harvest the fruit. Unlike hummingbirds that sip juice, this little guy prefers to suck sap. This is bad news for langurs or monkeys because the fruit whose sap has been sucked out by the jewel beetle will wilt, dry out, and fall off. But that is the consequence of a race for survival in nature; some win, and of course, some lose.
