There are still many large vacant lots on the outskirts of my town. The vacant lots have been covered with sedges that grow up to knee height. Those are my favorite macro spots. When taking an afternoon walk there, you will often find robber flies stalking their prey; Tawny coster butterflies perched sweetly on the tips of sedges: or sweat bees sunbathing while enjoying the afternoon breeze.
I caught a pair of sweatbees one afternoon. They were perched on a sedge flower—it seemed they were courting.
They were so engrossed, they didn't even care that there was danger threatening nearby; a crab spider was watching them.
This guy knows exactly when and where to find his prey. He can easily trick them with a physique that matches the brownish sedges.
He was waiting for the right time to ambush. Anyone careless will certainly become his lunch!
Lets face it.
Robber flies like living on sedge.
