In 2010 the village of Attabad in northern Pakistan was buried by a landslide. The event was a major natural disaster that stopped the flow of the neighboring Hunza River causing the site of the former village to rapidly fill with water and displacing thousands of people in the region. In the past decade or so, the resulting turquoise lake Attabad Lake has become a destination in and of itself. With water sports and boat tours locals have been able to build hotels and campsites around the lake in an effort to rebuild their lives and livelihoods❤
