It's been a while but here is my entry for the #monomad challenge.
Situated on Auckland's West Coast this rugged beach lies 40 minutes west of the city. It is one of several beaches on this west coast that have black sand due to high levels of iron.
It is a popular spot for swimming ,surfing, fishing and day walks.
There is a huge cave at one end that can only be explored at low tide. It is deep under the huge cliffs.
At low tide an island can be reached that displays the amazing volcanic rock and soil that shaped this area after eruptions long ago.
The beach can be really dangerous with large waves and rips so in Summer it is patrolled by lifeguards. This is the deserted lifeguard station in Winter, when you take your life in your own hands if you want to surf , swim, or fish.
At low tide the beach is great for walking and taking dogs for walks.
On a good day the beach is a mecca for surfers.
A log washed up long ago on the coast from some distant shore.

On the way back I took a photo of this winery which has been out west for nearly a hundred years.
The city is always growing so this building will soon be torn down to make way for housing. I remember passing it as a child and it always let me know we were almost out at the beach.
Thanks for taking this trip to Te Henga beach!
I love that Winery building
Me 2 as I said I've always seen it on the way out to the west Coast beaches since I was a kid
So sad 2 see it go
