MONOMAD | Historical Tour at Anoi Itam Fort, Sabang Island |

Sabang, located on Weh Island, is the most beautiful area in Indonesia. Indonesia's Zero Kilometer is on Weh Island and I once posted the Zero Kilometer Monument in the #monomad photography community.

I have often been to Sabang and this area is known as an exotic marine tourism destination. There are many beautiful beaches in Sabang with clean white sand. On Rubiah Island which I have also posted, tourists can enjoy the beauty of the underwater world just by snorkeling.

But Sabang is not only marine tourism, there is also historical tourism here. One of them is the cannon at Anoi Itam Fort, Sabang, which is a cannon left behind by Japan. This cannon is about 3 meters long. This cannon is the main attraction for visitors to take pictures.

The cannon at Anoi Itam Fort is located inside the main fort which is shaped like a horseshoe. This cannon is a silent witness to the struggle of the Japanese army to survive the enemy during World War II. Anoi Itam Fort was built between 1942-1945.

Anoi Itam Fort functioned as a place of protection and defense for Japanese troops in the sea area. The fort faces directly to the sea so it offers a stunning sea view. Here there is an underground tunnel along the coast as a defense fort.

Unfortunately, the cannons at Anoi Itam Fort are not well maintained, as are the cannons I saw at Santa Monica Beach, Los Angeles. Maintaining tourism assets is indeed an unfinished homework in Sabang, and perhaps in other areas in Indonesia.[]
