At Night All Cats Are Black

in Black And White2 months ago

They say that all cats are black at night, but I would say they are black and white. It suits me better now when I will try to convert some color photos, taken at night, to black and white.

Black-and-white photography is special because it addresses feelings and perception more than technical qualities, subjects must be chosen carefully.

In the past, many years ago, when I started taking photos, I didn't have such worries, because everything was just black and white, I had no choice.

For this reason, one of my criteria for choosing black and white photography was also to send me back to the past or to evoke it.

A few days ago, or rather nights, I did something I hadn't done in a long time.

I participated in a protest and a support demonstration at the same time.

I protest against political forces that want to return to a past where I lived and where I never want to be again.

I support those political entities that want my country, Romania, to remain in the European Union and NATO.

I don't want to do politics here and now and I know that such topics are not accepted, but they are part of our lives and the elections define us. For this reason, I will not continue on this topic. I will only say this:
I have not been to such demonstrations before except in December 1989, during the Romanian Revolution, and in August 2010, when there was also great popular discontent.

Now, for this post, I was only interested in converting some color photos to black and white. I considered that these photos, which contain great emotion, a reference to the past, and a hope for an uncertain future, fit this transformation.

Bucharest, December night, in University Square

Some images were taken from among the demonstrators, who came with children and dogs to express their desire for a European future for the country.

Well, the protest didn't last very long for me.

It wasn't what it once was...

The color probably fits better now.

I set off for home and walked through the nearby forest, actually a park, which now has the "silver deer" and the trees with the "golden trunks".

Then I got scared of the monster crawling in the alley in front of me until I realized it was my shadow.

The imagination of the child I once was, long, long ago.

This is my entry for the #monomad challenge.

The contrast has been excellent because sometimes it is difficult to achieve when converting from colour to black and white, but you have done very well. If I have to choose favourites... the first, second and last one... I like the shadow theme!

You're right about the contrast issue, I have a hard time getting that too.

You have succeeded very well!

Wow when you do the demonstration you still had time to capture some pictures of the demonstration, this is cool my friend, black and white photography gives a deep soul, thank you for sharing with us.

With pleasure!
