Contrary to sometimes popular belief, images in black and white aren't just to cover up bad lighting situations. In fact, there are times that a photo in black in white is much more difficult to light and compose than it's full color friend.
One such situation can be when there is a busy background with lots of green leaves. Your subject can get lost in the chaos of the background. The trick is to make sure there is adequate contrast between your subjects.
But I do love how it can eliminate the distraction of colors at times. How it forces the eye to focus on the subject and take not of expression.
And at times, draw you into the mystery of thought and wonder of what might be happening in a scene. What was the person thinking, feeling, or in a particular location/position
But mostly for me it feels classic. Timeless. Nostalgic.
So...SHOUT OUT TO BLACK AND WHITE! Cheers to keeping monochrome alive.
My dad is colorblind, so back when he used to do photography, it was always in black and white. At least the stuff we developed ourselves in his darkroom. Everything else we would send out to the lab(s).
Yeah I would think that could make color development more difficult :D I had a friend who was an electrician that was color blind and he used to joke about how hard that was wiring up some things. Needless to say I never hired him to do any electrical work for me, hahaha.
Green is ground the world around. Wait, is that blue? 😃 Too funny!
Hello @captainbob.
Please do not forget to add the #monomad tag to your post (together with the other tags).
It would be a shame not to include one of these images in our selection tomorrow. 🙂
Yes! Thanks for the reminder! Consider it done :)
I share that opinion regarding black and white photographs, it is not always to correct certain details, but to improve it. Beautiful pictures, my favorite was the first one, you can appreciate the love in that couple!
Thanks! I know them personally and can attest they are perfect for each other :)
