Bird watching for the #monamad challenge

Dog Marsh.

In January's cold, blue predawn.

The Port of Grays Harbor loading facility brightens low hanging clouds.

Cackling geese, the louder, short-necked cousins of Canada geese, whorl over the marsh.

They won't settle, because I am there.

Over the riprap, to the tidal inlet.

A hawk, or raptor of some sort, and the ubiquitous seagull.

At the mouth of the inlet, scaups (either greater or lesser, it's unclear) bob and watch me and dive.

Rock underfoot, and mist in the trees.

This post is for the February 7 #monomad challenge. The photos were taken on January 2, using a Canon EOS 80D and either my 18-50mm stock lens or 75-300mm zoom lens.

The location is the Grays Harbor bay in Hoquiam, Wash., in the mystical Pacific Northwest.
