Well it appears we've managed to make it through yet another Kentucky Derby, with a couple dead horses and the usual drunken debauchery being the worst that happened. Thought about heading down there to take photos of the people going to the track but it seemed like more of a headache than it was worth on a Saturday morning.
Instead I edited photos from earlier in the week. Monday was May Day and naturally we had to mark the occasion. Here in the US we have Labor Day in September because Uncle Sam was afraid that if we celebrated it on May 1st like much the rest of the world, people might remember the Haymarket Massacre and riot. May have even been right.
Thanks to that bit of sleight of calendar it's mostly just the anarchists, communists, and socialists that still celebrate May Day here. These photos are from a march and rally in Old Louisville put on by some of the local socialists.
Republicans here in Kentucky have been hellbent on outlawing trans people recently, so trans rights were the main theme of the day's festivities.
Police here are known for their hostility to free speech, so nobody fools with them when securing a protest. Blocking streets with bikes and vehicles, it just like old times! Or at least 2020.
Ended up being about half rally and half block party. They were giving away vegan hot dogs though so I was a bit suspicious.
Think I'll leave y'all with a photo of the guy who just wanted to know what the fuck was going on outside his front door.
No May Day is complete without music, so check out this old school May Day tune. For a more modern interpretation, give this a listen.
