Those are some lovely shots! I'm not familiar with that saying or an English equivalent but it makes sense.
I always preferred Stone Temple Pilots song Creep to Radiohead's. Never could get into Radiohead myself but that could be because of how much my friends loved/played that song...
Aside from using speakers instead of headphones it sounds like our editing and writing process is quite similar. I'm not sure what makes music black and white but this song had better qualify
Google tells me it could be something like "The darkest place is under the candlestick".
The meaning is always the same though.
I use laptop with not so good speakers, plus my neighbors would not enjoy loud music at 2 am, so I always use headphones.
