Rambling About

Think it's safe to say that Louisville and I have a relationship best described as love/hate. Took quite a few years but eventually I fell for this weird and insane small town of a city. At the same time, the more I come to know it, the more I loathe aspects of it.

Five years ago today Breonna Taylor was murdered in her own home by LMPD acting on a falsely obtained warrant. Almost immediately after the coverup began and it took until late May before the details started coming out and we took to the streets. Since then there's been plenty of talk about change but we're still waiting on that consent decree and the change has been a bit difficult to see.

LMPD has put a lot of effort into PR since then, but citing a woman in labor for illegal camping seems to be the best evidence for how much they've changed. Still, I can't hold the whole city responsible, most folks here are a decent sort. Think that's where the love/hate comes in, the people here can be amazing but the cops have long been a law unto themselves and our property developer of a mayor is a good example of the overlap between the entrenched interests and city government.

None of these photos have anything to do with all that, they're all from the Highlands earlier this week. Anniversary snuck up on me and sent me off on a tangent. Apparently the UPS store is now a French bakery. Now where was I?

Oh yeah, Louisville. There's a company here, Omega Mirror Products, that claims to have made 90% of the disco balls during disco's heyday in the 70s. Now they're the only place still making'em in the US. Had read about them while down in a Wikipedia rabbit hole and promptly forgot until I wandered past their office.

I think motorcyclists are one of my favorite photo subjects, just make for fun street photography. Plus some seem to enjoy the camera's gaze and that just makes things better.

Probably just about time I ride on out of here myself, so I'll just leave you with one last photo, of Sir Gnomeo, the Guardian of the Porta Pots. The St. Patrick's Day parade was a couple weeks early and he's been wasted ever since.

That feeling that you feel for the city you mention is also felt in a certain way in the city where I currently live but for different reasons, but well, I always try to follow the routine where I live. Greetings and good data and photos that you expose us !

I wonder if that feeling is just part of getting to know a new place? Even when I try, I'm not very good at following the routine ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Greetings and thank you!
