When we were in DC back at the beginning of the month we ended up spending some time in the city's Chinatown. Since I didn't go anywhere fun today I thought I'd share a few from that adventure for this week's #wednesdaywalk.
We hadn't intended to end up in Chinatown, we'd set out for the National Portrait Gallery. It was only a couple blocks from Chinatown so once we'd had our fill of portraits we set out to explore and find tasty vittles.
This was our first indication we were getting close. Pretty sure that's the arena for DC's hockey team, the Capitals.
Looks like tasty vittles...for a rabbit.
Anybody had New Big Wongs recently?
It was too early in the day for karaoke but this looked like my kind of joint. Growing up in a rural area I got most of my notions about cities secondhand. Mix a little Sesame Street in with all the late 80s & early 90s 'Oh Noes! The Crimes!' television news segments and you should be getting pretty close. This is probably the closest I've come to finding something that matched my imaginings.
I think I mentioned vittles... At this point we were getting a bit hangry so we stopped at the next place we came to, Reren. I've ate and gambled with more than my fair share of ramen but I'd never come across lamen before we stopped here. We ordered some without being quite sure what it was we were asking for but as we were waiting discovered that it was Chinese pulled noodles. Quite tasty ones.
It was a lot busier out than I was expecting, lots of people out and about. I'm not sure what that thing is but I want one.
I was experimenting with shooting with the camera hanging from my neck in hopes of having people be less aware of the camera. The two photos above were shot in that fashion, it gives them a bit of a different perspective. With a wide angle lens it didn't turn out as bad as in prior attempts but it was still a bit random what I ended up with.
That looks like the cops so I think I'll just be getting on home. Y'all have a good'un!
Those 2 shots with it hanging from your neck worked beautifully. Caught people way more naturally. Nice work
Thank you! Lol, those two were cherry picked from a mess of almosts. I'd tried shooting that way before but it took getting a wide angle lens before I was happy with any of the results.
Sometimes thats what you need to do, experiment and take LOTS of shots :) but you kinda know what you’re after just figuring out how to get it 😃
I love this post cool to see other Chinatowns around the world, that sit down bike thing is pretty cool, I could have a basket at the back from my camera bag tripod etc and head all over ;)
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
Thanks. I'd never been to a Chinatown before so once we realized how close we were we kinda had to go. Now to get photos of some of the other ones out there... Lol, yeah those bike things would make humping gear a lot easier.
Thanks for dropping by!
I am lucky to have travelled a lot so I have seen quite a few of them :)
such a beautiful portrait, that I feel like I'm in the city
