Went to meet an old friend for coffee yesterday, as I was walking up to the shop I happened upon a sight that stopped me in my tracks. Is that an American flag mask laying on the ground? Holy hell, I do believe it is!
Wait just a second! I thought the flaggy types didn't believe in masks? FREEBIRD!!! FREEDOM!!! and all that...
Let me get this straight...someone was fond enough of the flag that they wanted to cover their face with it but not fond enough of it to keep from discarding it like a soiled napkin in a parking lot 🙄
I guess the United States Flag Code only applies to accurate depictions of the flag???? Do people in other countries emblazon their flag upon anything and everything too or is that another of those peculiarly American traditions?
The title is a play on John Prine's song Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore and if you follow the link you can listen to a live performance along with John introducing the song. He died of covid on April 7th of last year, somehow I doubt he'd be much more impressed with flag masks than he was flag decals... Give it a listen, let me know what you think!
This looks good to be me boss
🤣🤣🤣
That's gotta be from a NASCAR race...
One might expect a Thin Blue Line flag actually.
That John Prine song is a classic!
The day I took that the photo almost every cop wearing a mask had some version of thin blue line on it.
It's one of my favorites, love that tune. It's hard not to watch the aggressive brandishing of flags and not start singing it...
That song is a classic, as is Bruce Cockburn's If I Had a Rocket Launcher and Bob Dylan songs like Masters of War. Each has a very different attitude, though.
Indeed, all in their very own special way. I'm not as familiar with Cockburn compared to the other two, I will have to remedy that.
This might also be right up your alley:
Yes! I'm listening to more Five Iron Frenzy now, that song is like last year in a nutshell.
