A couple weeks ago I decided I wanted to try and keep an orchid. I went to Portland Nursery with the intent to support local business. I looked at what they had. The selection was limited and the flowers didn't impress me. I overheard a clerk telling another customer that they could get easier orchids at Fred Meyer (the PNW's version of Ralphs and Kroger). So I took my eavesdropping information and went to the grocery store and bought three orchids for the price of one.
They were already in bloom and everything. I really didn't have to buy more than one, but sometimes when I get into a thing, I really get into a thing. Just ask the crows...
Anyhow, now I have three orchid plants that get three one-ounce servings of water three times a week.
I also have a few air plants. I love holding them. I think they cause an oxytocin release. They definitely like reiki.
I've never been much of a gardener and I don't even have a space for a garden, but having plants in my apartment is therapeutic. At least while I I'm keeping them alive. Having plants die in my apartment is not therapeutic, and may even cause me to seek therapy from a professional. I have one spade leaf plant that has managed to stay alive for four years and has moved with me from home to business and home again multiple times. It asked not to have its picture shared on the internet, though. So instead I'll share this slowly decaying rose, which to me looks cool, but to you might look like a wadded up dirty cloth diaper.
Story of my life.
Black and White Community. This concludes my entry to the #monomad challenge, held daily in the
Amazing shots! You should enter the monomad comp (well maybe not cause ill never win again)
thanks! are you referring to a competition different from the one I entered? ;)
Opps cause it was not in the title I missed it! Oh second place for me :p
I rarely ever place or even get honorable mention, but that doesn't stop me from entering. And I would vote on your seals again if I had the chance!
Three is always better than one! :D
P.S. The watering might be a bit too often. Its better to fill up the container with water, leave them soak for about 30 min and then remove all the water. Do it again when the roots change colour from green (when wet), to silvery grey. Might be a week, might be too. Depends on what they are potted in and the temp outside. Always make sure they dry before you water again. Otherwise roots will rot.
