the good kind of writhing

I bathed today
in your autumn light
on your sleek sunlit streets
and your rain-licked leaves

leaves that flushed red
like I did
when I heard your voice
on the far side of the storm

I swam today
in your fallen frost
through freshly minted grass

and into the dirt
where worms wiggle and writhe

the good kind of writhing
like I do now
scanning the horizon
of a season

that doesn't exist
