Rural versus Urban is a project that I've been developing since 2015 and which aims to cross rural and urban environments side by side.

There are signs of rurality in big cities, especially in the community gardens that are becoming increasingly fashionable. However, I like to escape to rural areas for direct contact with nature and its people, where genuineness, humanity and simplicity prevail. Where a group of people practice primary activities (agriculture, fishing) in areas not occupied by cities or large population centers.

Between these two antagonistic worlds, I look for marks that bring them together or distance them.

Almost always presented in the form of diptychs, so that there is a dialog between the photographs, this work had its first appearance in 2016 with the group exhibition “Landscape: Rural versus Urban”, at the Brick Lane Gallery in London.

Rural versus Urban é um projeto que tenho vindo a desenvolver desde 2015 e que pretende cruzar, lado a lado, ambientes rurais e urbanos.

Há marcas de ruralidade nas grandes cidades, principalmente nas hortas comunitárias cada vez mais em voga. Contudo, gosto de escapar para zonas rurais para um contato direto com a natureza e suas gentes, onde a genuinidade, humanidade e simplicidade prevalecem. Onde um conjunto de pessoas praticam as atividades primárias (agricultura, pesca) em áreas não ocupadas por cidades ou grandes adensamentos populacionais.

Entre esses dois mundos tão antagónicos, procuro marcas que os aproximem ou os distanciem.

Quase sempre apresentado em forma de dípticos, para que haja diálogo entre as fotografias, este trabalho teve a sua primeira aparição em 2016 com a exposição colectiva "Landscape: Rural versus Urban", na Brick Lane Gallery em Londres.
