I love small cabins out in the wilderness, to me it’s a symbol of the strength of the people living in this harsh environment. When I was in Jukkasjärvi, which is located in the very north of Sweden, I wanted to wander a bit out into the landscape to see some of these cool cabins. To me it feels like there is a harmony of this kind of housing and nature. It blends in, not taking up too much space, naturally placed in a location as if it always has been standing there, and once it’s abandoned the timber will decompose back into the ground it was erected on.

In the back there is a cabin that looked completely snowed in. Wonder if someone is hibernating in there waiting for spring, or perhaps it is just used for summer.

This cabin is probably abandoned or used as shed. But i loved the look of it, the wood was weathered and had a beautiful patina. I wanted to walk so I could view it from the other side but I soon found myself waist deep in snow so I backtracked on to the path.

It’s easy to romanticize living in a cabin like this. For a short vacation it’s probably an awesome experience, but living like this over a long dark winter might be really tough. I can imagine cabin fever arriving long before the awaited spring. On the other hand once spring starts you get very long days, sometimes even without the sun setting so there is a balance even though it’s a bit extreme.

Have you ever stayed in a cabin ? Could you imagine spending a whole winter in one, with just the most basic things at hand ?

This is my submission for #monomad

The cabin is beautiful; rustic and weatherworn. And there's no way in hell I'd spend more than a week in one of those covered in snow! lol

But seriously, I could see myself holed up in one for a few weeks writing and contemplating life like Thoreau. But there had better be Bourbon and cigars on hand.

Stellar landscapes; great photography!

Thanks for sharing this look into Sweden's north country!

Cheers!

Haha Bourbon and cigars sounds like a pretty good survival kit for staying in one of these cabins ! I would bring a few bottles of red wine and some books and I think I could huddle up in there for quite some time

What an Amazing view ❤️ snow looks so lovely and soft feel. Monomad and snow combine really well. Such an amazing shot.

Thank you, snow landscapes are definitely good for black and white ! Wish you an awesome weekend !

I have never stayed in a cabin but I'll love to romanticize in a cabin a whole winter!
