After shopping for the stall's needs, after having morning coffee, I often go to the beach in the downtown. The fishermen there have started fishing since this morning. We call it "Tarik pukat", Yup, the fishing net is spread in a U-shape using a boat off the beach and they pull it ashore. The two sides of the net will eventually land with a fairly large catch of fresh fish.
Tarik pukat majority in one team number 10 to 14 people. These fishermen are coastal residents who depend on the sea not far from the coast for their livelihoods. Unlike fishermen who use large boats, they can even be at sea for several days before returning to land.
Basically; Tarik pukat has become a fishing tradition in Aceh Province that has been carried out for generations, where fishermen work together to pull large nets (pukat) from the sea after catching fish. This activity is generally carried out collectively using small boats, where a group of fishermen pull the trawl containing fish, shrimp, or other seafood.
In addition to being the main livelihood for coastal communities, trawling is also a form of togetherness and mutual cooperation that is highly valued in our fishing community.
I feel lucky to live in a city surrounded by the ocean in Aceh (Lhokseumawe). Yup, I really enjoy it. Stay here with the traditional fishermen in my spare time is very nice, especially if their catch is large. I can buy fresh fish that have just been netted by local fishermen.
I tried to capture some images and make them as entries in this Monomad Challenge. Hopefully these images will get support from friends in the Black and White community.
