I am not always motivated, I don’t always have the best ideas, I don’t always achieve the best results in what I do, nor have I always performed at my best. But if there’s one thing I can say about myself, it’s that when I know how to do something, at the very least, I am consistent.
No siempre estoy motivado, no siempre tengo las mejores ideas, no siempre tengo el mejor resultado en lo que hago, ni tampoco he rendido de la mejor manera en lo que hago. Pero si algo tengo es que cuando sé hacer algo, soy por lo menos constante.
Being consistent is a quality I’m proud of. I’d like to be just as consistent in everything I do, so I try to make it a habit. I don’t like taking on challenges if I don’t know whether I’ll be able to sustain the practice, but once I manage to be consistent in something, I stick to it.
Ser constante es una cualidad de la que me siento orgulloso. Me gustaría ser igual de constante en todo lo que hago, por lo cual trato de hacerlo. No me gusta enfrentarme a retos con los cuales desconozco si podré sostener la práctica, pero cuando logro ser constante en algo, lo mantengo.
In this wedding, which took place a long time ago, I remember working as the sole photographer. Back then, I didn’t even have an assistant, but I always tried to do my best with the resources I had. Looking at these photos now, I know they weren’t my best work, but the conditions I was in didn’t allow me to do much more. I remember that all the walls and ceilings were made of wood, so I had no surfaces to bounce the flash. I had to go for direct flash, and because of that, many of the photos are not entirely to my liking.
En esta boda, que fue hace mucho tiempo, recuerdo que asistí como fotógrafo solo. En ese entonces ni asistente tenía, pero trataba de ser lo mejor posible con lo que tuviese a disposición. Veo estas fotos y, la verdad, no fueron las mejores que pude haber hecho, pero las condiciones en las que me encontraba no me permitían mucho más. Recuerdo que todas las paredes y techos eran de madera, por lo cual no tenía rebotes posibles para el flash, así que opté por flash directo, y por esto muchas de las fotografías que hice no son de mi completo agrado.
Even so, I look at these photos, and they are part of my growth as a photographer. It’s good to look back and compare your work to see how you have evolved. The past is important to revisit, but it is not a sentence—it is simply a part of our memories.
A pesar de todo ello, veo estas fotos y son parte de mi crecimiento como fotógrafo. Es bueno ver hacia atrás y comparar tu trabajo para ver cómo has evolucionado. Es bueno ver el pasado, pero no es una sentencia; es solo parte de nuestras memorias.
