I have known Oscar since I was a child because he lives on the same street as my mother, and it was my street until I moved in with my family. He is older than me and is a trauma surgeon.
Since I became a photographer I involuntarily look for people I would like to photograph, sometimes it is something I identified and other times it is something I don't know. When I was a child I looked at him with a certain admiration since he is older than me and as children we look for role models.
Conozco a Oscar desde niño ya que vive en la misma calle que mi mama, y fue mi calle hasta que me mude con mi familia. El es mayor que yo y es Cirujano Traumatólogo.
Desde que soy fotógrafo busco de forma involuntaria gente que me gustaría fotografiar, a veces es algo que identificó y otras veces es algo desconozco. Cuando era niño lo veía con cierta admiración ya que él es mayor que yo y como niños buscamos modelos a seguir.
One day while visiting my mother, I fractured my finger riding what in the future would be my bicycle. When I saw my broken finger my mind told me - Fix it! - and the more rational part of me (thank god) said - NO stupid Oscar lives next door - so, I went to his house and rang the doorbell begging him to be there. He peeked out and I immediately showed him my hand, very calmly and without haste he set out to get what he was going to need, while I explained what happened at an accelerated speed. I don't remember his answers but I do remember that they were brief, then he approached me, took my hand, injected an anesthetic in the finger and without warning me, while I was talking, he groped and straightened the fracture.
Un día visitando a mi madre, me fracture un dedo manejando la que en un futuro sería mi bicicleta. Al verme el dedo fracturado mi mente me dijo - ¡Arreglalo! - y la parte más racional de mi (gracias a dios) dijo - NO estupido Oscar vive al lado!- así que, fui a su casa y toque el timbre rogando que estuviese allí. Él se asomó e inmediatamente le mostré mi mano, con mucha calma y sin apuro él se dispuso a buscar lo que iba a necesitar, mientras yo le explicaba lo ocurrido a una velocidad acelerada. No recuerdo sus respuestas pero sí que fueron breves, luego se acercó a mí, tomó mi mano, inyectó un anestésico en el dedo y sin avisarme, mientras yo hablaba, tanteo y enderezó la fractura.
I am very grateful to him for welcoming me into his respite and helping me in my emergency, without this being his obligation or responsibility. He could have sent me to a medical center and he would have been right, but he decided to help me.
Le estoy muy agradecido por haberme recibido en su descanso y ayudarme en mi urgencia, sin que esta sea su obligación o responsabilidad. Él pudo haberme enviado a un centro médico y estaría en lo correcto, pero decidió ayudarme.
As a thank you, some time later I took some pregnancy pictures of his wife; and I took advantage of the moment to take some portraits that I wanted, these pictures are the result of it. Some other time I will upload the pictures of him with his family.
