I had forgotten that at Andrea and José’s wedding, Andrea had sung something for José and their guests. The fragility of memory often works against us—or perhaps it works against objectivity.
Había olvidado que en la boda de Andrea y José, Andrea había cantado para José y sus invitados. La fragilidad del recuerdo en muchas ocasiones juega en contra de la memoria, o tal vez juega en contra de la objetividad.
Many times, I’ve experienced remembering an event one way, only to discuss it with someone else who recalls it differently. There are certain objects in my house that hold memories for me, which is why I keep them. In fact, one of my most treasured keepsakes is a train ticket my partner gave me when we were just starting to date. It says, "Me das un besito," and every time I find it around the house, we talk about it. But she doesn’t remember it at all. It’s fascinating how some memories stay perfectly intact while others fade almost completely.
En muchas ocasiones me ha ocurrido que recuerdo un evento de una manera, pero cuando lo converso con alguien más, esta otra persona lo recuerda diferente. Hay ciertos objetos que tengo en mi casa con los cuales tengo asociados recuerdos y los guardo por eso. De hecho, tengo uno muy apreciado para mí que es un boleto de tren que mi compañera de vida me dio cuando estábamos saliendo que dice "Me das un besito," y siempre que lo encuentro por la casa hablamos de eso, pero ella no lo recuerda. Es curioso cómo unas cosas las recordamos perfectamente y otras quedan casi en el completo olvido.
Memory is a delicate thing—if you ask me, I think it’s an aspect of reality that even stops being real. But photography fights against this, making moments tangible—or at least, that’s what it tries to do. Photography has defined me in many ways, and it’s something I truly feel good about. I hope you enjoy these photographs that capture the memory of Andrea and José’s wedding.
La memoria es una cualidad muy frágil, si me preguntan. Creo que es un aspecto de la realidad que incluso deja de serlo. Pero la fotografía rompe con esto y la convierte en algo concreto, o por lo menos eso intenta. La fotografía es algo que me ha definido un poco y con lo que me siento bastante bien. Espero disfruten de estas fotografías que van sobre el recuerdo de lo que fue la boda de Andrea y José.
