Symbolic union is not literal, and because it isn’t, it can lead to many misunderstandings. In the past, these unions were easier to comprehend; family units went through crises but avoided separation as much as possible. Today, things are different—individual identity takes precedence, which, in my view, creates issues because younger generations don’t fully grasp the weight of their actions within the multiple layers of relationships they form.
La unión simbólica no es literal y, por no ser literal, puede traer bastantes confusiones. Antes era más sencillo entender estas uniones; los núcleos familiares pasaban por crisis, pero evitaban al máximo llegar a la separación. Hoy en día es diferente, prevalece la identidad individual, y esto presenta varios problemas según mi perspectiva, debido a que los individuos más jóvenes no entienden el peso de sus actos sobre las distintas capas de relaciones que pueden llegar a tener.
I don’t believe the old ways were necessarily right, nor do I think the modern approach is perfect either. My belief is that each person should be aware of this and ask themselves the right questions in order to build and sustain meaningful, long-lasting relationships.
La forma antigua no me parece que sea correcta, y la más moderna tampoco. Mi pensar y sentir es que cada quien debe tener conciencia de ello y hacerse las preguntas correctas para gestar y mantener relaciones significativas y longevas.
