Last night in Austin Texas was the second Midnight Secrets comedy show in the Warehouse District. This is a secret show in which the location cannot be disclosed unless you buy a ticket. The show was packed with some of Austin‘s best & rising talent. Midnight Secrets is produced by Cody O’Dell and Brendan Gay.
The nights acts included Cody O’Dell, Craig Fergola, Brandon Gay, Tim Warner, Marty Clarke, and Leonarda Jonie. This was a sold out event! The room was packed and filled with energy. People were laughing and drinking and generally having a good time interacting with each other and enjoying the comics presented to them.
The night started with Cody O’Dell performing 10 minutes worth of material, followed by Craig who got the crowd roaring and ready to go. Then came Brendan, who gave a stellar performance. Tim Warner woke the crowd up with his no-holds-barred set. Marty Clarke was the penultimate comic and then Leonarda closed out with a magnificent performance that captivated the crowd from beginning to end.
This crowd unlike most that I’ve seen was very engaging. If it any point a comic said something that they didn’t agree with, a certain group of individuals had no problem letting their thoughts be known. This would be a problem for most comedians as they may struggle with a combative audience but the comics at the Midnight Secrets show had no problem reigning everyone in.
I’m very thankful for the opportunity to document the night. For this event I brought the Konica 50mm, Jupiter 85mm, and the Jupiter 135mm lens. After doing a couple test shots I decided to stick with the Jupiter 85mm and 135mm for the entire event as to keep the consistency in the storytelling of the photos. I think this was the right decision as I was able to get close-up shots and medium shots depending on my positioning within the room.
Being that it was a sold out event I had to maneuver through lots of bodies but thankfully there was a secret hallway, of sorts, I could travel through in order to easily get from one place to another to snap a couple photos. When it came to editing the photos, I played with some new techniques which I think really helped the photos overall.
I do plan on implementing these new techniques going forward. I’m also looking forward to learning Photoshop for photo editing.
This is something I’ve been procrastinating on for a couple months now however since I am shooting more and more events in Texas and I’m always on a quest to get better I will be dedicating myself the next few days to learning Photoshop to make my photos even better.
The goal is to never stop learning and to always be improving.
Til next time!
