In the Montalbán valley, mornings filled with fog at low altitude are very common. In fact, the name “Montalbán” means: “White Mountains” and it is thought that it was given by the founders to this valley precisely because of the frequent presence of morning fog during almost the whole year... So “DENSITY” is one of my photographic series based on images captured with that mysterious and complex atmosphere that fog provides. I invite you to enjoy these recently taken pictures during one of my morning rides along one of the inter-communal roads that connect Montalbán with other nearby towns...

En el valle de Montalbán las mañanas repletas de niebla a baja altura son algo común. De hecho, el nombre de "Montalbán" quiere decir: "Montañas blancas" y se piensa que fue dado por los fundadores a este valle precisamente por la frecuente presencia de niebla matutina durante casi todo el año... Entonces "DENSITY" es una de mis series fotográficas basada en imágenes capturadas con esa atmósfera misteriosa y compleja que la niebla provee. Los invito a disfrutar de estas fotos que son de data reciente y realizadas durante uno de mis paseos matutinos a lo largo de una de las carreteras inter-comunales que conectan Montalbán con otras poblaciones cercanas...

The route was done on my bike and the intention that day was, besides exercising, to take some pictures to record the rural landscape along that road. However, when you are surrounded by fog and a lot of shapes emerging everywhere, it is impossible to stop thinking about how each scene will look worked in a monochromatic format. It is at that point that shapes, light and the density of the atmosphere begin to take on a primordial relevance when making each photo. As is often the case for me, I know that when I “think of a photo in monochrome, it is something that can also work in color. But when I'm thinking about it in color, it may not work well in monochrome”, that's a sort of statement that floats in my head as I go around taking pictures.

El recorrido lo hice sobre mi bicicleta y la intención ese día era, además de ejercitarme, hacer algunas fotos para registrar el paisaje rural a lo largo de esa carretera. Sin embargo, cuando un está rodeado de niebla y de un montón de formas emergiendo por todas partes, es imposible dejar de pensar en como se verá cada escena trabajada en en un formato monocromático. Es en ese punto cuando las formas, la luz y la densidad de la atmósfera comienzan a cobrar una relevancia primordial a la hora de hacer cada foto. Como suele suceder con frecuencia para mi, sé que cuando "voy pensando una foto en monocromático, es algo que puede también servir en colores. Pero cuando la voy pensando en colores, es posible que no funcione bien en monocromático", esa es una especie de enunciado que flota en mi cabeza cuando voy por a todas partes haciendo fotografías.

Obviously the day I took these photos I escaped several times from the main road and scrutinized some dirt roads on both sides of the road... The fact of going around wanting to take pictures of landscapes and at the same time wanting to capture scenes that allow me to exercise my creative psyche, give them names and write around them some poem or even imagine it, all this is something that makes me feel as if in me inhabits more than one person, or as if my visual intention has the ability to constantly bifurcate taking me from being a photographer to a dreamer in an unpredictable, capricious and sometimes hybrid way... Perhaps the only thing that works harder than my camera during these times, is my mind that plays a constant self-analysis game, leading me to conclusions that perhaps I would only find by practicing meditation... How can I not love taking pictures then?...

Obviamente el día que hice estas fotos escapé varias veces de la carretera principal y escruté algunos caminos de tierra a lado y lado... El hecho de ir por allí queriendo hacer fotos de paisajes y al mismo tiempo queriendo capturar escenas que me permitan ejercitar mi psiquis creativa, ponerles nombres y escribir alrededor de ellas algún poema o siquiera imaginarlo, todo esto es algo que me hace sentir so si en mi habitase más de una persona, o como si mi intención visual tuviese la capacidad de bifurcarse constantemente llevándome de ser un fotógrafo a un soñador de una manera impredecible, caprichosa y a veces híbrida... Quizás lo único que trabaja más que mi cámara durante estos ratos, es mi mente que juega a auto-analizarse de manera constante, llevándome a conclusiones las cuales quizás solo encontraría practicando la meditación... ¿Como no voy a amar hacer fotos entonces?...

This is a landscape where the rural and the urban conspire in a constant way, this is a landscape that makes me say things while I look at it and capture it, this is a landscape of memories, of stories and fables from my past and my present... I perfectly understand that many around me look at these places with the typical indifference of those who look at them daily, but for me every morning full of mist has the same magic of my childhood days, when I played to imagine that fantastic creatures appeared emerging from the mist, while my mother took me by the hand to school...

Este es un paisaje donde conspiran lo rural y lo urbano de manera constate, este es un paisaje que me hacer ir diciendo cosas mientras lo miro y lo capturo, este es un paisaje de recuerdos, de historias y de fábulas de mi pasado y me presente... Entiendo perfectamente que muchos a mi alrededor miren estos lugares con la indiferencia típica de quien los mira a diario, pero para mi cada mañana repleta de neblinas tiene la misma magia de mis días de niño, cuando jugaba a imaginarme que aparecían seres fantásticos emergiendo de la niebla, mientras mi madre me llevaba de la mano hacia la escuela...
