A few days of this November have gone by and this edition of my street photography series "Stolen Stories" is built around photos taken during the first week of this month.... And as always, this is my entry to today's #monomad challenge...
Ya Noviembre ha avanzado y esta edición de mi serie de fotografías callejeras "Historias Robadas" está construida alrededor de fotos hechas durante la primera semana de este mes... Y como siempre, esta es mi entrada al reto #monomad de hoy...
"Children crossing the river"/"Niños cruzando el río"
Some children come down from their homes in the mountains to study in the village schools. Then, in the early afternoon, they can be seen crossing the small river that borders the village centre and leads them to the roads that ascend to return to their homes. Some of these children walk as much as 4 kilometres up the mountain after a day at school.
Algunos niños bajan de sus casas en las montañas y vienen a estudiar en las escuelas del pueblo. Entonces, durante las primeras horas de la tarde, se les puede observar cruzando en pequeño río que limita el casco urbano del pueblo y le lleva a los caminos que ascienden para volver a sus hogares. Algunos de estos niños caminan trayectos de hasta 4 kilómetros montaña arriba luego de un día de escuela.
"Perucho transporting firewood"/"Perucho transportando leña"
Domestic gas is still hard to come by in these small towns in the province (which is ironic since we are in the country with the largest gas reserves on the planet). So many people choose to use firewood for cooking in their homes. This makes it not unusual to see people (like Perucho in this photo) carrying portions of firewood to satisfy the needs of the day.
El gas doméstico sigue siendo difícil de conseguir en estos pueblos pequeños de la provincia (lo cual es una ironía dado que estamos en el país con mayores reservas gasíferas del planeta). Así que muchas personas optan por la leña para cocinar en sus hogares. Esto hace que no sea nada extraño el poder observar personas (como Perucho en esta foto) llevando porciones de leños a sus hogares para satisfacer las necesidades del día.
"Chicho being happy"/"Chicho siendo feliz"
You may have seen "Chicho" before in some of my posts. Chicho is something like "my particular street dog" and he usually appears as if by magic during many of my street walks. He is an adorable, cheerful and indomitable creature... He lives on the streets of the village, but many people know him and feed him, and have even protected and cared for him once he had an injured hind leg. In this photo Chicho is running towards me on a walk near the river. He loves to be petted, but doesn't like to be taken indoors, I once tried to make him sleep in my backyard and he protested until I let him go outside... But Chicho is still a good walking companion.
A "Chicho" quizás ya le hayan visto antes en algunos de mis posts. Chicho es algo así como "mi perro callejero particular" y suele aparecer como por arte de magia durante muchas de mis caminata callejeras. Es una criatura adorable, alegre e indomable... Vive en las calles del pueblo, pero muchas personas le conocen y le dan de comer, inclusive le han protegido y cuidado una vez que estuvo con una pata trasera lesionada. En esta foto Chicho aparece corriendo hacia mi durante una caminata cercana al río. El ama ser acariciado, pero no gusta de ser llevado al interior de las casas, una vez intenté hacerlo dormir en mi patio trasero y protestó hasta que le dejé ir hacia la calle... Pero Chicho sigue siendo un buen compañero de caminatas.
"A glimpse of a humble home"/"Atisbo a un hogar humilde"
Some of the houses here are built with wooden poles, old metal sheets and some old wooden boards... However, there is a lot of visual charm in some of these precarious dwellings where older people usually live and these are usually on the edge of the village. This picture is a look from the road, raising my head above a precarious "wall" made of more rusty metal sheets, there are some baskets hanging on a pole and some accessories which are perhaps used for cooking.
Algunas casas aquí están construidas con postes de madera, viejas laminas metálicas y algunas tablas de madera igualmente viejas... Sin embargo, hay un montón de encanto visual en algunas de estas viviendas precarias en donde usualmente viven personas mayores y suelen estar en las margenas del pueblo. Esta fotos es una mirada hecha desde el camino, alzando mi cabeza por encima de una precaria "pared" hecha con más laminas metálicas oxidadas, allí se ven algunos cestos colgados en un poste y algunos accesorios los cuales quizás sirven para cocinar.
"Depression"/"Depresión"
My friend José was my high school classmate. I remember perfectly his amazing ability to learn other languages such as French and English, which he learned to write and speak perfectly... Until the turn of the century José worked as an interpreter at international events and hotels in the capital of our state. However, with the arrival of the economic and social crisis, his economic situation became increasingly difficult and he was forced to leave his job as an interpreter and go to work on his family's land... This did not go well either and now it is common to see José wandering the streets like in this photo.
Mi amigo José fue mi compañero de estudios en la secundaria. Recuerdo perfectamente su asombrosa habilidad para aprender otros idiomas como francés e inglés, los cuales aprendió a escribir y hablar a la perfección... Hasta comienzos de siglo José trabajaba como interprete en eventos internacionales y hoteles en la capital de nuestro estado. Sin embargo, con la llegada de la crisis económica y social, su situación económica se hizo cada vez más difícil y se vio obligado a dejar su trabajo como interprete e irse a trabajar las tierras de su familia... Esto tampoco salió del todo bien y ahora es frecuente ver a José en las calles deambulando como en esta foto.
"Children carrying a fan"/"Niños llevando un ventilador"
Well, this picture may not be too bucolic hehehe :))... But I loved this vision of two children carrying an electric fan down the street while sweetly discussing where the device would be placed once they had arrived home... There's a little story in everything!
Bien, esta foto quizás no sea demasiado bucólica je je je... Pero me encantó esta visión de dos niños llevando un ventilador eléctrico por la calle mientras discutían dulcemente en donde iba estar ubicado el aparato una vez hubiesen llegado a su casa... ¡En todo hay una pequeña historia!
"A girl who has to work"/"Una niña que tiene que trabajar"
Not everything is joyful here :( Some children, like this one in the photo, go through the streets returning home after working cleaning in some houses, picking crops in some fields or even selling things in the streets... It is a complex reality, unfortunately it is repeated more often than expected...
No todo es alegre aquí :( Algunos niños, como esta de la foto, van por las calles regresando a sus casas después de trabajar limpiando en algunas casas, recogiendo cosechas en algún sembradío o incluso vendiendo cosas en las calles... Es una realidad compleja, lamentablemente se repite con más frecuencia de la esperada...
"Through the old window"/"A través de la vieja ventana"
When I was a boy of 7 or 8 years old, my grandmother used to take me to visit her friends in some houses in the village. I remember perfectly well those long visits during which I used to rummage around in the backyards of those old houses... This photograph was taken from the street and through the window of one of those old houses visited by me almost half a century ago. What amazed me most, is that little glimpse of the backyard which seems to look almost the same as it did when I was a child.
Cuando yo era un niño de 7 u 8 años, mi abuela me llevaba a visitar a sus amistades en algunas casas del pueblo. Recuerdo perfectamente aquellas largas visitas durante las cuales yo solía hurgar en los patios traseros de esas viejas casas... Esta fotografía la hice desde la calla y a través de la ventana de una de esas viejas casas visitadas por mi casi medio siglo atrás. Lo que más me ha asombrado, es esa pequeña visión del patio trasero el cual parece verse casi igual a cuando yo era un niño.

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.
NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape 3.6.3.

Siempre es un gusto ver tus fotografías acompañadas de pequeñas historias, la fotografía de "Perucho transportando leña" y "Chicho siendo feliz" fueron mis favoritas, siempre es lindo ver a Chicho por aquí.
