Dear Hivers,
last post.Have I mentioned before that Friday after 5 pm is usually my favorite time? Easy to guess.. Anyway. I realized that a month has passed since my last blog post. It's been quite a while. I was in the middle of chaos again, thinking about the elections, the future, etc. Today I will share some details from Skopje. There are some posts I have shared before within the scope of the #monomad challenge concept. There were some street images from Prague - Cechuv & Jirasek Bridge, Nábřežní, in the
When I visit the Balkan countries I usually find something different. I had to fly to Macedonia for a small job. I think it is not a place that someone who is going to visit for the purpose of traveling can enjoy. At least for now. The city is undergoing reconstruction and there is a lot of construction. I am gonna try to talk about the good things.
Ensemble of monumental sculptures, fountains, and impressive buildings...The city square is usually filled with large statues.
Stone Bridge of Skopje stands as a timeless symbol of the city's rich history and architectural grandeur.
There are abandoned ship restaurants fixed in the river. They were not active when I was there.
There are free walking tours in the city square every morning at 9-10 am. I think you will discover more places if you travel on your own. Of course, it makes sense to join walking tours if you want to learn more about the city.
Nestled within the bustling streets of Skopje, the Turkish Bazaar, also known as the Old Bazaar or Čaršija, exudes an enchanting ambiance that takes you back in time. There were a lot of pastry aka. Börek restaurants in this area.
It's better to glimpse into Skopje's multicultural tapestry. Since the city is flat like Amsterdam, the use of bicycles and scooters is quite common.
The city has a generally gloomy atmosphere. The old texture of the buildings also supports this ambiance.
I recommend you to try Zlaten Dab and Skolsko beers if you are a local beer lover like me. The hop aroma is very dominant in Zlaten Dab. If you like strong-bodied beer, you might like it. Skolska is a very balanced and soft beer despite its 4.8% alcohol.
As the sun sets over city, I am saying goodbye to Skopje. Again, I ended the day with many random street photographs. I like to do that. When you collect a lot of memories without any equipment, you can look at random photos years later and realize that you have actually forgotten some moments :) Furthermore, random photo shoots can sometimes still produce very good results.
Don't you think so?
Thanks for the post :)
