The ghostly winter of Northern Norway

I could pour on you a large number of adjectives, when I describe the winter I saw, felt and experienced in Northern Norway, a scenery part of the Arctic Circle.

Fabulous, fairy, fantastic, enchanting, magnificent, splendid, grand, frosty, cold, wintry, icy, extreme, dangerous, quickly changing, painfully white, vast, freezing, magical... but let me stop here as this could go for hours!

Adjectives keep popping in my mind while I am writing this but no, I am not going up to the previous paragraph to add them to the list! :) Few more words could add new angles but I would rather let my Arctic travel photographs speak and tell you that winter fairy-tale instead.

Hey, you're probably going to ask me at that point, why did you used "ghostly" in the title?

Well, that's only because I had a guest-model for that first photograph below, a bored ghost, who was so polite and patient to pose twice in front of that small church in the frozen valley.

Just in case you're wondering, the first three photographs below are long exposures, you know probably by now I use Photoshop only when I have to :) It's always better and more fun and much more educative to do things "in the camera" ;)

Winter, winter, Arctic winter...

Will I have the chance to travel to this special part of our vast world again? I hope I will!

You probably know by now how much I love Black & White or sometimes referred as Monochromatic photography. I have always believed that while Color Photography shows the external part of our world, Black and White Photography shows the soul, the inner hidden side of everything. Please consider the first photo of this post as my entry today to the established #monomad daily contest by @monochromes, supported by @qurator, thank you everyone for your hard and continuous efforts to build and grow this great community!

This is the REAL winter indeed. Great photos that capture its spirit :)

@tipu curate

Hehehe, indeed, a real winter for real men and other survivors :D
Thanks so much!

Really like the first and second images there. The ghostly figures took me by surprise! And the beautiful white snow in the second is lovely.
Any chance these were taken using IR? Or how did you achieve such a clean black sky?

Thanks, buddy! No, I don't shoot with IR (yet), I had some plans for it as the summers around the place I am stuck for the covid thingy, are quite hot :)
I mainly post-process in Lightroom, the darker sky is a result of playing with the color channels in the Black & White Mix ;)
Good luck here on Hive and on your path as a photographer, you've got a beautiful web site :)

Great photos and great mood.

Thanks a lot :)

Ghostly, indeed! My favorite photo from this collection is the city lights shining beneath the mountainscape. it's cold and stark, and yet the city lights convey warmth and comfort.

Winter is my least favorite season, but a little easier to tolerate in film...

Thanks for your post!

Cheers!

My least favorite season as well, but very beautiful though, isn't it? :)

Thank you!
