This is my entry for the daily #monomad challenge which is hosted by #monochromes
It was mid December and on one of my many adventures I found my self here., a place ide always wanted to see for myself. It was minus 10 and and snow covered the ground.. On arrival you can't but notice the gates looming, with the German phrase "Work Sets You Free"..
A wandered out across the yard, with long barrack type buildings either side of me, barbed wire everywhere you looked.. The first building I went Into was on several levels, large rooms on each side of me, sacks and straw thrown around the floors, sleeping spaces for the privileged ones.
The upper lever had been layed out with different rooms, this is where the enormity of what happen really hit me..
Shoes.. many children's..
Suitcases.. People's lives scrapped together, never to be unpacked.
Human Hair.. some plated some in bundles like wool..
Hairbrushs, combs, shaving brushes..
Glasses..
Empty gas canisters..
I made my way to another building, this housed people in small rooms, some with windows some without. Experiments were taken place here, on people.
Outside was a small square building with a chimney, this was one of the crematoriums..
Across the road is where the trains arrived Birkenhaus. rows and rows of dozens of buildings as far as you could see, homes to the many thousands. The toilet block gives you an idea of the size of this camp, this was one of many.
The Train Tracks arrive in from several directions, but all led to one ending...
A memorial sits at the end of where one of the gas Chambers used to be, and Roses and keepsakes lovingly surround them..
That evening as I sat in my room, I opened the door and looked out at the freezing wet misty night. Images of what ide seen filled my head, I can honestly say I wouldn't of lasted a few hours outside under the conditions they had to endure. I haven't gone into detail as the is so much online. My photos, although upsetting also represents a visual collection, a reminder, that history can never repeat itself. Thankyou.
Moving photos. Emotional moving that is and not like Harry Potter moving photos! The thing that sickens me when I see photos like this is that there are people out there who are still trying to discredit what happened and pretending we have all been duped because mostly they are simpletons.
I do have to agree.. you have to see it with your eyes to grasp the enormity of it all.. and how anyone can believe it didn't happen is beyond me..

Nice captures 👍😊
thank you 😊
You are welcome
Quite an incredible experience. A horrible, horrible place, and yet surprising too. So much order and precision, for such a terrible reason.
Everyone should visit and spend some time to reflect.
The photos are great. I will find a link to share with some of mine, as the styles are quite different and you might be interested.
I found two:

I absloutly love the style of your images... you captured the place beautifully... such a moving place.
I didn't want to go into too much detail as wasn't too sure I ought too.. but looking at your post I maybe should of.. I shall read it all now. thankyou!
It is definitely one of the life experiences I cherish. I would like to take my wife there too, but she is unsure if she could handle it.
I was unsure as well as to how ide handle it.. but it was really surreal.. I didn't feel anything at all.. sort of a nothingness.. unimaginable how one person can even think up such horrificness...
I think it was a team effort to think it up...
The benefit of being behind the camera. I find that it "shields" me from the emotional reactions of the moment.
I don't see any tourists.., Did you go in the dead of winter when nobody else was about? The place was heaving when I visited. I took all my shots in black and white too. It seemed fitting.
December absolutely freezing.. noone around really., I would of been dead on arrival without a doubt.
Oh, it is touching!! WHat a great reminder to all the people in this world - history, this kind of it, should never repeat itself!
I agree.. and thankyou 😊
I was there 10, maybe 12 years ago, can't remember exactly. You could still easily feel the heavy atmosphere.
Unfortunately it was raining cats and dogs on that day and we weren't able to see everything. The room filled with eye glasses and the one with hair made me feel extremely uncomfortable.
Quite sad, but great captures!
As a side and lighter note.. please do not forget to include the #monomad tag together with the other ones, or we might accidentally miss your post while going through all the entries.
Unfortunately the front ends only pick the tags that are on the correct tag field and ignore all the other ones in the post body.
Cheers and welcome to the community!
I found the shoes the most upsetting.. so many little feet, and the glasses is just mind blowing. Thankyou for your kind words and I shall definitely remember to do that again, I'm still getting used to how it all works with lots to learn!!
No worries, you're doing great!
What everyone else said.
Shocked and grateful at the same time everything's preserved. Surreal photos, you put this together well.
Welcome to Hive. Wasn't the same without you.
that's such a lovely thing to say 😊 thankyou so much!
