Hello, dear black and white community, today I want to continue with a series of photographs taken by me about the beautiful architecture of Havana that began a little while ago, the capital of all Cubans. Show you more streets, buildings, parks and places of interest.

Embassy of Spain in Cuba

To begin with, we have the Spanish Embassy, located in Havana. Built in 1912 by the architects José Mato Sequeiro and Francisco Ramírez Ovando; it was at the time called Palacio Velasco-Sarrá and is located in one of the most beautiful junctions of this city. It was built as a home for Dionisio Velasco and María Teresa Sarrá, it assumes art nouveau as an architectural concept adopted by the Hawaiian bourgeoisie, which sees this style as a sign of European sophistication in those years.

The interior of the Palace refers to a traditional Spanish house with a central courtyard surrounded by large galleries, to which is added a relevant heritage of precious woods, Carrara marbles, blacksmithing and mosaic floors. These people had the property until January 6, 1984, which became the property of Spain and the headquarters of its Embassy and its Consulate General. See more…

Convent of San Francisco de Asís

The Convent of St. Francis of Assisi is a religious building of Baroque architecture located in the homonymous square in Old Havana. Its construction began in 1548 and lasted until 1591, although it was inaugurated in 1575, it was completely completed almost 200 years later, with a series of structural reforms that took place from 1731 to 1738.

The building is composed of three large naves, which are supported by twelve columns representing the twelve apostles, of the Catholic Church. It has a tower of 48 poles high, which in colonial times was the tallest structure in the city for several centuries.

Its construction is due to the community of Franciscan friars that settled in the western part of the bay. See more…

Sierra Maestra, the famous terminal in Havana

Since its inauguration in 1914, Havana had one of the most important docks in the world, due to the quality of the service it offered and how modern its facilities were.

The project was carried out by Barclays Parsons & Klapp for Port of Havana Docks Company in the area of Avenida del Puerto located in front of the old and emblematic St. Francis Square in Assisi. This consisted of the construction of a group of three structures called breakwaters, each with two levels, which were linked to a building of approximately 4 floors, called the Marginal building. The breakwaters were named as San Francisco, La Machina and Santa Clara and these had dimensions of 208×45 m, 188×45 m and 172×64 m respectively.

Structurally, the building has an eclectic style and is made up of numerous galleries to access the ships of the disembarkers. See more…

Other buildings

These are other buildings created many years ago, some are homes, some have very bad areas, but they are still standing little by little that they last one year after another.
