Hail to the Hive!
WalKing into Newton Abbot today from our friend @diveratts house we
Assed this railway signal gantry which was at the entrance to an Aldi supermarket. The semaphore signals were a tip of the hat to the industrial heritage of the area and the Great Western railways impact. The supermarket was the site of a sizeable engine shed and works so it’s kind of cool they’ve incorporated the old signLs into the new shopping area.
They immediately caught my attention raised up with their signals against the summer sky.
As usual I stopped and snapped away taking photos of something that everyone walks by every day and thinks little of and asks no questions.
I quizzed @diveratt about them and he told me the local history was a little controversial as the old engine sheds were listed building yet somehow’ caught fire’ one day. Same old story.
So at least the semaphore signals remain as a reminder of what his site once was.
Its called progress apparently
That structure with that somewhat dramatic sky gives it a special touch in your photos and adding that they are in black and white makes it even cooler 🖤
Thanks @dimascastillo90 as soon as I glimpsed them I knew the shots i wanted to capture!
