Hail to the Hive!
While having some New Year beers the other day on the neighbors roof terrace the subject of unfinished buildings in Jamaica came up again as I see a lot while flying the drone and also while driving around the country.
A few explanations came up whereas some buildings on the plots were family members who had since run out of funds to complete the projects and others were people planning and extending thier homes as and when funds permitted.
Building outwards and upwards, expanding the living space as it became feasible to do so. Sometimes just for extra living space or recreational areas. Otherwise for rental accommodation for extra income.
I am always struck by the myriad of different ways people imagine the architectural growth of these homes on this scheme from the same box house starter home. Apparently the houses on this scheme, the original box starter house, were Cuban designed and built. Solid and strong and have provided a firm starting platform to expand and design the house you want.
I think the prize goes to the neighbor my father in law affectionately calls ‘Smitty’ as this home looks amazing and the roof terrace is a superp recreational spot!
I also told him I use his home as a navigational beacon when flying the drone, to find my way back as it’s so distinctive. A lovely place indeed and a great spot to gather, drink beers and share stories.
Excellent friend, my applause👏👏👏 and vote for you again, greetings
