#MONOMAD Challenge Entry
Life is often described as a fleeting moment, a brief dance in the light before the curtain falls. It's only when we reach a certain age, often dubbed the 'golden years,' that we truly appreciate the weight of those words. Now, at 65, standing at this milestone, I'm struck by the profound truth of that sentiment.
The camera roll on my iPhone is a modern-day tapestry, woven with images that represent the essence of the 65th year of my journey. It holds thousands of photos, of which I have chosen 65, one for each year I've been blessed to walk this earth. They aren't necessarily the best in terms of composition or clarity, but each one is a key that unlocks a memory, a feeling, a moment in time.
Looking back at these images, I'm transported to moments that now seem surreal. Like fragments of a dream, they piece together the story of my life. From the early days of raising my two incredible daughters to the unwavering support of my wife, these photos are candid snapshots of my reality. They're the footprints I've left behind in the sands of time.
The project '65 at 65' was inspired by a previous endeavor, '50 at 50,' which I embarked on with a close friend and talented photographer. We had selected 50 of our finest shots taken with a 50mm lens, a challenge that honed our skills and our eye for capturing life's essence. Last night, as I sat reminiscing, the idea struck me to curate a similar collection, this time more personal and spontaneous, pulled directly from my everyday camera roll.
As I sift through these digital memories, the past year feels like it has slipped through my fingers. The photos depict distant memories, yet they are so vivid and rich with emotion. There's the unexpected snapshot of a family gathering, the serendipitous sunrise on a routine morning walk, and the candid laughter shared over a simple meal.
Each photo tells a story, a lesson, an experience. They capture the mundane to the magnificent, the triumphs and trials, and the sheer beauty of the ordinary. They are reminders of places I've been, the people who have been my strength, and the countless little joys that life has offered.
In sharing these 65 photos, I invite you to glimpse the world through my eyes. It's an invitation to see the beauty in the everyday, to appreciate the now, and to capture moments before they fade into the past. For life is a collection of snapshots, and every snapshot is a treasure.
As I continue on my journey, I'm reminded to live each day to the fullest, to seek beauty in the small things, and to love with all my heart. For in the end, it's not the number of photos we take, but the moments we cherish that define our lives.
So here's to life, to memories, and to the unexpected beauty that awaits in the years to come. May we all be so fortunate to look back at our camera rolls with a heart full of gratitude and a life well-lived.
Congratulations. Today's #monomad second place is yours.
