THE WORLD IN MONOCHROME - Entry for the #monomad challenge

Hello there dear black and white community!

Haven't posted any photography in a while.
I was in Switzerland for a little over a month and took my time off of hive for a while. However, I'm back at it again with new impressions of my journey!

The Great St Bernard Hospice and Statue of Grand Saint Bernard himself.

High up in the Western Alps in the canton ''Valais'' in Switzerland at an altitude of around 2, 469 meters is the Great St. Bernard pass. This mountain route/ pass connects Italy and Switzerland. Back in the days, the pass was known for it's many dangers where pilgrims were at risk of being attacked by wandering bandits. There was yet one particular man who decided to take the matter in his hands. His name was ''Bernard de Menthon'', known as the Archdeacon of Aosta. Bernard de Menthon for that reason took on a mission to create a safer pass for travelers and established The Great Saint Bernard Hospice which was governed under the Bishop of Sion. The Hospice became also a place of worship where a church has been present dating back to the year 1125.
