Hello to all Hive friends and #monomad folk. Today, I will mix black and white photography with culinary. I am presenting to you a traditional Slovenian dish called "Štruklji". Štruklji is a traditional dish made from rolled dough filled with various fillings, such as cottage cheese, nuts, poppy seeds, or tarragon. The filled dough is typically rolled into a log shape, then boiled or baked, and served sliced. It can be served as a savory or sweet dish, depending on the filling and accompanying ingredients. Štruklji are often enjoyed as a main course or dessert in Slovenian cuisine and are popular across the region.
Ingredients:
Dough:
300 g flour
1 egg
2 tablespoons oil
salt
Filling:
500 g cottage cheese labeled "selected quality - Slovenia"
1 sour cream
2 eggs
For topping the štruklji:
Preparation:
Knead a soft dough from the ingredients and shape it into a ball. Brush it with oil and let it rest for at least an hour. Meanwhile, prepare the filling by mixing the cottage cheese, sour cream, eggs, and salt together. If you want to prepare sweet cheese štruklji, add 3 tablespoons of sugar.
Roll out the dough as evenly as possible on a floured cloth. Except for the edges, spread the prepared cheese filling evenly on it. Carefully and precisely roll it up using the cloth and protect the dough with greased foil or a damp kitchen towel.
Cook the štruklji in salted water for 45 minutes and let them rest for a few minutes in the water they were cooked in.
There are many serving suggestions for this dish. Some love it sweet, others salty. Mine most delicious one is with some meat gravy and mushrooms. Yummm
Stay blessed
