These are some pictures I took with a Yunon YM500 film camera.

I found this little camera some time ago at either a flea market or as an item in an auction. I forget which, but I do remember taking it to Marion Coffin Garden in Wilmington, DE and the New Castle, DE riverfront for some photography. Unfortunately I only recently got around to getting the film developed, but I have it back now.

This is a camera that definitely falls into the category of "toy camera" or "lomography." There is absolutely nothing fancy about it. It's features:

  • 50mm lens.
  • Four different f/stops: 6, 8, 11, 16
  • Umm... shutter release.

It also has a dial to advance the film. Surprisingly, it does have a double exposure safety feature where the film must be advanced in order to snap the next picture.

I need to admit, the camera looks pretty neat, and it's comfortable to hold. It's super light and weighs next to nothing.

If memory serves, I had put 200 ISO black and white film into it and did my best to remember to adjust the aperture. Other than that it's point and click and you're done.

I have not yet found the sweet focal point for the camera. Honestly, I thought it was infinite distance, but most of the landscapes that I took turned out like crap. I think this camera would absolutely shine with a film from lomography.com.

I will take this camera out again when the time is right; in the meantime, I have some others that need some love that I'm going to experiment next. More to come!

Seen a few of those - or something similar - when I went to the antique store :)

Obviously I have a few. I've recently decided to frankenstein a camera together to be able to rewind the film for double exposures, so I'm now looking for old cameras "for parts" that I won't miss if I destroy them. I forsee more cheap-ass cameras in my future!
