Hey from Laos! Several days ago, I left Vietnam but still have something to show.
Victims of Color
Vietnam is so much about color but, at the same time, many pictures I took there "were killed" by boring or aggressive colors.
This one, for example. I spotted the moment from the street and quickly photographed without overthinking. But I never posted the photograph on Hive or elsewhere since the colors are awful - brightly blue walls with red objects here and there. In bw, the moment that attracted my attention is free of chromatic cacophony.
On the same day. The red in the background buried the image. Love the boots and umbrella but the light doesn't make the picture better.
Momma
Example of extreme poverty among dogs in Vietnam: momma wants AC but has no right to enter a bookstore since she's an animal. 😀
She don't bite! Only seeking enjoy in freshness! No rabies, fool, you yourself rabies! 😡
😄
Slapped
Once, I nicknamed Vietnamese old ladies dominatrices. It's because these ladies can be tough when you are taking images of them (unlike young coquettes, friendly men, and all sorts of joyful kids).
Crossing the Han River Bridge, I saw them and pushed the button preparing to get potential punishment, giggling for that reason and saying sorry. 😁 The first lady passed without saying anything but slapped my hand. 😁 The second lady said to me something. It could be "It will rain soon" (rain was coming) or "you bastard" 😄 - I can't speak Vietnamese so I can't know.
(If you are slightly slapped, it is often just a playful way to "punish" someone, you shouldn't be serious about it).
People Under Awnings
It was almost 5 pm but the day was so clearly sunny and hot that I was already dead to the moment. Hardly could see what was happening below the awnings. Discovered they were smiling at me only during the post-processing.
Daydreamer
Loved that careless monkey-like pose of the man dreamily watching the brightly lit opposite shore of the Han River. When I was taking the image, I disliked the darkness of the foreground. As a result, in bw the darkness is rather an advantage imo.
Under the Bridge Hiding From Rain
Several days I was staying in Da Nang in August 2024 were super hot. So I was happy when strong gusts of the wind started alarming people: "Rain is coming!" Motorbike drivers were stopping the vehicles to take on colorful ponchos.
And I meanwhile headed to hide myself under the Dragon Bridge.
And I shot this daydreaming scene. Good you can't see the sad aggressive blue in the mural. Nice one but the colors kill me.
More Victims of Color
Honestly, I enjoy this pic in bw. No awful color there, but rather boring color combinations with plenty of annoying shades of blue.
Such archways are made for black-and-white so no complaint 😀
Here we are! Hope you liked the set, guys! 😎 Which image is the best from your point of view? Share in the comment section below!

I took these images with a Nikkor 50mm on a full-frame DSLR Nikon D750 in June-August 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City / Da Nang, Vietnam.
