Hello, friends! Last Tuesday, I was in Lviv—I had to visit the dentist. It was a routine appointment, and I still have two more visits (or maybe a few more) to finally complete my extensive dental treatment. I got off at the bus stop near Arsen because I needed to buy some groceries for home. I took a short walk from the supermarket along the right side of Chornovil Avenue. There, you can find small kiosks (and a little market a bit further down) selling various goods. The city council plans to dismantle them to create a nice pedestrian area with a bike lane and plant trees. On one hand, this is great—the urban space will become more organized, and the streets will be less chaotic. But on the other hand, these kiosks belong to private entrepreneurs who run small businesses and provide jobs for people. They are protesting because they risk losing their livelihood, which is especially difficult during wartime. Moreover, small businesses played a crucial role in helping Ukrainians endure the early days of the invasion, and now is not the time to destroy them. It’s hard to say who is absolutely right in this situation.	Привіт, друзі! Минулого вівторка я був у Львові – довелося навідати стоматолога. Це був плановий візит, і мені залишилося ще два (а можливо, трохи більше), щоб нарешті завершити своє глобальне лікування зубів. Вийшов на зупинці біля «Арсену», бо мав купити деякі продукти додому. Пройшовся трохи пішки від супермаркету, вздовж правої сторони проспекту Чорновола. Там розташовані кіоски (а ще трохи далі маленький базарчик), де продають різні товари. Міська рада планує їх демонтувати, щоб облаштувати красиву пішохідну зону з велодоріжкою та висадити дерева. З одного боку, це добре – міський простір стане впорядкованішим, на вулицях буде менше хаосу. Але з іншого – ці кіоски належать приватним підприємцям, які ведуть дрібний бізнес і забезпечують роботою людей. Вони протестують, бо ризикують залишитися без заробітку, що особливо важко під час війни. До того ж, саме малий бізнес допоміг українцям вистояти на початку вторгнення, і зараз його не варто знищувати. Важко сказати, хто тут однозначно правий.

Привіт, друзі! Минулого вівторка я був у Львові – довелося навідати стоматолога. Це був плановий візит, і мені залишилося ще два (а можливо, трохи більше), щоб нарешті завершити своє глобальне лікування зубів. Вийшов на зупинці біля «Арсену», бо мав купити деякі продукти додому. Пройшовся трохи пішки від супермаркету, вздовж правої сторони проспекту Чорновола. Там розташовані кіоски (а ще трохи далі маленький базарчик), де продають різні товари. Міська рада планує їх демонтувати, щоб облаштувати красиву пішохідну зону з велодоріжкою та висадити дерева. З одного боку, це добре – міський простір стане впорядкованішим, на вулицях буде менше хаосу. I also want to draw your attention to the high-rise buildings a bit further down Chornovil Avenue. There, you can find 16- and 20-story buildings—quite a significant height for Lviv, which has traditionally been built up with mostly 9- and 10-story structures. In recent years, the city has been changing, with more and more tall buildings appearing, just like in other Ukrainian cities. Of course, these aren’t the 30-40 story skyscrapers of Kyiv, but the process continues. The city is developing—some people like it, some don’t, especially since the war has forced many people to relocate here, even from Kyiv, which suffers from almost daily Shahed drone attacks and frequent missile strikes. And what can we say about frontline cities like Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, or even Sumy and Odesa, which are constantly under threat? Some benefit from these changes, while others suffer. But this is a natural process (and by that, I mean migration and urban development, not the war itself—war is nothing but horror, death, and suffering), just like life itself, which, unfortunately, isn’t always painless.	А ще я хочу звернути вашу увагу на висотні будівлі, що стоять трохи далі на проспекті Чорновола. Там є 16- та 20-поверхові будинки – це досить значна висота для Львова, який традиційно забудований переважно 9- та 10-поверхівками. Останніми роками місто змінюється: з’являється все більше високих будівель, як і в інших містах України. Звісно, це не такі хмарочоси, як у Києві (по 30-40 поверхів), але процес триває. Місто розвивається – комусь це подобається, комусь ні, адже через війну сюди переселяється дуже багато людей, навіть з Києва, який також потерпає майже від щоденних атак "Шахедів", та й ракети туди прилітають часто. А що вже говорити про прифронтові Харків, Запоріжжя, Кривий Ріг, та й Суми та Одеса постійно страждають. Хтось отримує вигоду, хтось страждає. Але це природний процес (тут я маю на увазі лише міграцію та розбудову міст, а не війну, війна - це жахливо і це лише смерть і страждання), як і саме життя, що, на жаль, не завжди буває безболісним.

А ще я хочу звернути вашу увагу на висотні будівлі, що стоять трохи далі на проспекті Чорновола. Там є 16- та 20-поверхові будинки – це досить значна висота для Львова, який традиційно забудований переважно 9- та 10-поверхівками. Останніми роками місто змінюється: з’являється все більше високих будівель, як і в інших містах України. Звісно, це не такі хмарочоси, як у Києві (по 30-40 поверхів), але процес триває. Місто розвивається – комусь це подобається, комусь ні, адже через війну сюди переселяється дуже багато людей, навіть з Києва, який також потерпає майже від щоденних атак "Шахедів", та й ракети туди прилітають часто. А що вже говорити про прифронтові Харків, Запоріжжя, Кривий Ріг, та й Суми та Одеса постійно страждають. Хтось отримує вигоду, хтось страждає.
