Text: John 4:23–24 (NIV)
- Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
- God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.
We have no essence outside of Christ as believers. Jesus said that He is the way truth and life come, and no one comes to the Father except by him suggesting to us that there’s only one way, one truth, and one life; anything outside these are counterfeits. Surprisingly, we try to worship God our own way many times when the way to worship has made a clear call to accessing the Father.
Worship is not a song; it is not music; it is, in fact, not tears; it’s not heads on the floor. Worship is any voyage embarked on through the instrument of truth to meet God for the purpose of fellowship and intimacy. If Jesus is that truth, then it has to be through him. Paul said, I am what I am through Christ.
Again, Jesus as spirit has to be engaged in our worship, whether it be giving, songs, sacrifices, etc.; it has to carry these two components of truth, and the spirit, for God is spirit, and whoever approaches him not in spirit cannot access him; he cannot lie either; it is not a possibility with him, so any worship that is void of truth is far from him.
So when we next engage in any act of worship, let’s find out if these two are captured in our worship.
Lord, teach us real worship through your Son, Jesus, amen.
