I have been a Christian my whole life. Why do others prosper more?
It can be disheartening to see others, especially non-believers, prosper while you remain faithful to God yet face struggles.
However, the Bible offers clarity and reassurance on this topic.
Earthly Prosperity vs. Spiritual Riches
True prosperity goes beyond material wealth. While financial success and comfort may seem like the ultimate goal, God teaches that spiritual blessings carry greater significance.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 16 verse 26,
What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
Earthly riches are temporary but spiritual blessings, peace, joy, salvation, are eternal. Imagine a man who collects priceless art but feels empty inside. His wealth can't buy inner peace. Likewise, true prosperity is found in a relationship with Christ, not possessions.
God's Timing and Purpose
Life is like a garden. Some plants bloom quickly, while others take time to root deeply before producing fruit. God works on His divine timeline.
Ecclesiastes 3 verse 11, says He has made everything beautiful in its time. Joseph's life illustrates this perfectly. He was faithful, yet he faced betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment before rising to become a powerful leader.
Genesis 37-50.
His struggles prepared him for a greater purpose. Sometimes, God delays certain blessings because He is preparing us for something bigger than we can imagine.
Prosperity is a test, not a reward. Prosperity can be misleading. Wealth and success are not always signs of God's approval. In fact, they can become a test.
Proverbs 11 verse 28 warns,
Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
Consider a celebrity who gains fame but falls into destructive habits, due to a lack of spiritual grounding. Prosperity without God can lead to pride and spiritual downfall. Faith is tested through challenges. God often allows struggles not to punish but to strengthen our faith.
Think of gold being refined through fire. Our faith is purified through trials.
James 1 verses 2-3 reminds us, Consider it pure joy when you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
Would be a dedicated athlete training for years without immediate success. Though they may lose races, their endurance and strength grow. Likewise, our faith grows stronger during times of difficulty.
Eternal rewards matter more than temporary wealth. While others may prosper on earth, their rewards are limited to this life. God's promises focus on eternal rewards.
Jesus said in Matthew 6 verses 19-20, Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, Do not store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.
Imagine a person choosing between two homes, one luxurious but temporary, the other modest but permanent. The wise choice is the lasting home, just as spiritual rewards last forever. Your faithfulness to God is never unnoticed.
Galatians 6 verse 9 encourages, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Stay faithful. Your reward is being prepared, and God values the unseen growth of your heart far more than material wealth.
Trust his plan, knowing he sees your faithfulness and will honor it in his perfect timing.
