Hebrews 5:12 (KJV):
12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!
The reason why you receive knowledge is because there is an expectation that it will help you grow. As a believer that have been listening the word for a long period of time, it is expected that you must have attained a certain level of spiritual maturity.
This is not always the case for most believers. A believer that has been hearing God's word for a long period of time does not guarantee they will grow and mature according to the amount of word that they have received over time. In the book of Hebrews, Paul showed the same disappointment when addressing the belivers in Hebrew. After all they had been taught, he expected them to no just be belivers but also teachers of the word, but instead, he found them to still be amateur, needing to be taught all over again the word of God.
The cause of stagnation in the life of belivers?
This situation is a matter of choice. It can be seen through their attitude towards the word God's word and their level of obedience to instructions. Some belivers has chosen to remain a spiritual amateur, even when they should have been strong enough to become teachers.
I have seen belivers who have been listening to the word but there are no proof. They have not grown. Why does this happen? For this belivers, listening to the word is just like a normal routine for them. But the word of God is not supposed to be received in a casual way. Believers should learn how to embrace the word with all their heart. We should give the word full attention because that is how God speaks through us and to our destiny. You need to listen and obey the words of God.
There are certain qualities that is required to seen in the life of a mature beliver. And there also certain qualities that should not be seen, such as envy, gossip and strife. In the Bible, when Paul noticed such behaviors in the church of Corinthians, he told them, "But I, brothers could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, for you are still of the flesh. for while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?" (1 Corinthians 3:1-3 ESV).
At a certain level of your Christian faith, you are not supposed to be told that certain act and behavior is no longer meant for you. If you are still acting according to the flesh, then it might be obvious that you have chosen to become an amateur in the faith instead of a teacher.
NUGGET: For the knowledge that you have received, there is always an exception and expectation for you to choose to grow and mature in faith as a believer.
