Un dia de mi Vida (A day in my life) – Part 2 - #LaAventuraDeLaVida

in The Kingdom • 2 years ago

Welcome to my time capsule. 😊 We are traveling back several years to meet a girl much like me, but far younger and more naive. I will be telling you her story through her eyes over the coming weeks and months. I hope you enjoy it and see the many ways her Savior has guided her every step of the way! All of my posts marked with #LaAventuraDeLaVida are a part of this ongoing series.

And now, for the long-awaited second half of my day…

After lunch (between 12 and 1:00, depending on the day), I have my break time, during which I usually grade, lesson plan, or otherwise work on stuff that needs to happen. If I’m lucky (or plumb tuckered out), I’ll take a nap before recess with the 4th graders at 1:40. They are crazy, but fun. They are really growing into their personalities at this age, and Nicole and I always have hilarious conversations with them while we’re waiting in line or on the playground.

After I have delivered the 4th graders safely (more or less) to their teacher, it’s off to 8th grade for my last class of the day. As you may remember, I started out teaching this grade, but now I am a happy assistant.I like being able to be a little sillier and laid back, as well as working more one-on-one with the kids while Jenna takes care of the planning.

Since taking over 2nd grade, I have been able to take the early (escuela) bus home instead of the later (colegio) bus, so I only help during the first half of 8th grade. On Mondays I have reinforcement, which is basically after-school tutoring, except that it only happens once a week, and you have to specifically call the kids that you need to work with.

Once school is over, it’s onto the bus with a bunch of stir-crazy chillins! I love getting to talk with the kids on the bus in the afternoons, but boy, can it get loud. On Mondays, all of the kids who stayed for reinforcement have to fit on the colegio bus, and the teachers usually end up standing in the aisles. There have been times when we have had about 15 teachers lining the bus aisle until we get to our 2nd stop (where most of the kids get off). You quickly lose any sense of right to your personal space!

Once I get home, I usually eat a snack and get to work on either things for school or other things that need to be done around the house, although sometimes I will get off the bus early and run errands on the way home. When it’s my night to cook dinner (once a week), I start on dinner immediately. I’ve discovered I am a very slow chef. ;p

On Tuesday nights, we have Bible study and prayer time for the English teachers, and Wednesday nights we have church out at Destino. My other evenings after dinner usually include reading, playing my guitar, cleaning, or catching up with family and friends back home.

Then it’s off to bed for me! I usually try to be in bed by 9:15 or 9:30, but it usually ends up being a little after 10 by the time I finally conk out. I don’t last long once my head hits the pillow. Then it’s up the next morning to do it all again!
