Let's Discuss! AI & Photo Contests - Photographic Society Journal #6

Hey there, people, passioned about Photography!

Here is the latest journal of the "Photographic Society" community on HIVE.

Have you been hearing lately that AI generated photographs are winning world known and prestigious competitions?

Here below is the photographer, who has deliberately sent such AI generated art (the the right-hand side) to the famous Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA).

What exactly happened and why this German photographer has done it you could read here: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/its-going-to-destroy-jobs-when-an-ai-image-won-a-photo-contest-its-human-refused-the-award/ar-AA1ac5mP

This, by the way, is not the first time this happens.

Here is another "stunning" image that won another award:

So, let's discuss this.

Certainly, we have to speak more about this, while it is not too late.

Or is it too late already?

And here, the big question. Is this bad or good?

Here, on HIVE, it seems the opinions are highly polarized.

There are communities, who will give you fat rewards for posting AI generated visual art, while posting AI generated texts will most probably get you banned, muted and punished.

Everyone should definitely be honest when monetizing AI generated stuff, right?

Well, entering contests with AI generated visuals, that are surely not owned by the entrant, isn't right. Unless the rules clearly state such works are allowed. But then, hey, who has to receive the award?

Why should you post in the Photographic Society?

Well, let's put that down in the shortest way possible. The other photo-related communities ask for your photos and stories along. Such posts are welcome here too but the focus of this virtual group is to discuss our thoughts about Photography itself. For instance, talk about equipment, ask for advice, give criticism, and share photo news, monetizing opportunities, concepts, found photographs, techniques, stock agencies, experience in the field, photo NFTs, etc. The list is long.

Did you get the idea? If yes, what are you waiting for? ;) Start posting today! :)

Our mission is to make this community on HIVE more popular and potentially attract Twitter users to join the platform, so please follow us on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/photosochive

We share manually selected posts on Twitter! But that's not all. On Twitter we search for other photographers and photo lovers over there, to appreciate and share, and admire their work. There are other plans too, for other initiatives. Both here and on Twitter. Researching other social networks is in progress as well.

Can we support each other, sharing the same passion? The future will show that!

This post is 100% Power Up.

I can't tell if AI is good or bad. As an image generator, it is good. The origin of an idea in the human brain... formulation of a correct task for AI... this is also creativity and the result can be excellent. But what does this have to do with photography?

This is just another branch of fine visual art.

I consider it a fraud to pass off AI's work as a photo. Someone uses AI in their messages - great, just leave a note that it's AI and no problems.

That's an excellent way to summarize its usage with no credit - "fraud".
Of course, as everything in our world, it has its positive and negative sides.
Thank you!

It is unknown who uses whom. AI collects information about us while performing our tasks and possibly manages our further behavior with its results.

I don't believe that this hype just started like that, so someone definitely needs it and most likely not the AI itself...
