Legend
- Apollo gave a feast to Jupiter and requiring water sent the raven with a cup (Crater) to fetch some. On his way the raven noticed a fig tree, and, resting there until the figs became ripe, feasted himself upon them until, remembering his errand and fearing the anger of Apollo, he picked up a snake (Hydra) and on his return gave as an excuse that it had prevented him from filling the cup. Apollo ordained in punishment that the raven should never drink so long as figs were not ripe, and placed the raven (Corvus), cup (Crater) and snake (Hydra) in the heavens as a memorial.
- Another myth says “The Raven, was given a task by Apollo of keeping a watchful eye on Apollo’s pregnant lover Coronis. The raven reported back to Apollo the unwelcome news that she was having an affair with someone else. Apollo in anger cursed the raven, and its colour changed from its former silver hue to the present black.”

Algorab is the most notorious star of Corvus even though it is not the brightest.
The Algorab has a terrible reputation, a reputation of being fiendish but is this notoriety warranted?
In medieval astrology, Algorab was one of the 15 Behenian fixed stars, which were considered useful in magical applications and believed to influence planets when they passed near them. Each of these stars was associated with a plant and gemstone that would be used in rituals to draw the star’s influence. Algorab was linked with the planets Mars and Saturn.
Copperplate 7 from Johann Conrad Barchusen’s 1718 Elementa chemiae, appearing in Johannes Fabricius’s 1976 collection, Alchemy. wikipedia
Its plant was burdock and its gemstone, onyx.
In medieval magic, Algorab is used with “Burdock seed, leaves, and roots, with the tongue of a frog, placed etc. makes men angry, hateful, daring, and evil-speaking, causes wicked dreams, drives demons away, and protects men against demons and evil winds.”

That is really interesting, I hadn't hear any of these stories before. That's awesome! To be honest I wasn't that familiar with Corvus. Burdock seed is used in Chinese medicine if I recall for inflammation, I haven't tried it but I will definitely be passing on Algorab with frog tongues in it!

I hope that the bird from the alchemical graving will make the constellation even more interesting;)
I don't know much either. Once, I looked at the star of the Algorab constellation and its astrological significance. After reading that it's a demonic star, I didn't want to get closer to it.💌
