LKP's Axie Log #13: SHRIMPINATOR? Let's Make a TEMPURA out of it!

Hello everyone!

We had a storm just a while ago. I was really worried about the electricity and internet because it would take weeks if the main lines were cut off. Daily grinding in Axie would have been affected, as well as the other NFT games we are playing. Thankfully, it was not that strong because of the multiple landfalls it encountered. We were lucky because it got weaker along the way. We just hope that there would be zero to only minimal casualties for those areas affected.

Anyways, today we are going to watch and analyze some of the previous battles we did in the arena. This time we're up against 'Shrimpinator'. It's a backdoor build which relies on the midline 'Shrimp' for assassination and the backline 'Terminator' to finish it off in the late game. This team is super strong if played the right way. I've seen some incredible plays in youtube using this build and it's always amazing to watch how they manage to sweep enemy teams with ease. But will this build work against our current line up? Let's find out.

3 FAT DUDES VS. THE 'SHRIMPINATOR'

Our opponent here is a Reptile+Aqua+Plant(RAP) line up, particularly a 'Shrimpinator'. Their plant is pretty standard for this build. It's on the cheaper side because they don't have 'Leaf Bug', but 'Cactus' is also good card to chain with 'Thorny Caterpillar', especially in the early rounds when HP's are almost full. That's some massive damage that is capable of bringing down even the sturdiest of tanks. Of course, that 'Yam' is very vital to amplify the damage from the terminator's tail card. In playing a terminator, having a variety a debuff cards adds a layer of assurance that the damage thrown away by that 'Thorny Caterpillar' tail would be amplified. Of course, 'Serious' is also a must have in any plant tank. Prolly, the best mouth card out there you can get. Also, it's a very common part compared to something like 'Leaf Bug' so no need to worry about the price and scarcity if ever you are searching for a particular plant tank.

Do it in an open field, FARTS are DEADLY in closed areas

In the first round we only got 'Carrot' to play while the opponent played 'Yam'+'Serious'. Small disadvantage for us here even though we were still even in HP and energy. The reason is that they manage to inflict two stacks of poison in our plant. One stack from their previous combo attack and the other one while defending from our 'Carrot'. Poison is very annoying, especially in the late game. For every move, a poisoned Axie will lose hit points based on the stacks of poison it has. Imagine having ten stacks and in a blood moon situation with no heal. That's pretty hopeless for most. That's why poison is very meta right now, especially those reptiles, plants and aquas that have grass snake+backdoor.

They were very lucky with their draws as they managed to get another 'Serious'. They made a 'Serious'+'Cactus' combo which destroyed an energy and chip off significant amount of health from our plant. Most of the time if the opponents plant is in full health I go all out with 6 energies but since it's been a while, I got this feeling that they are going to use that 'Shrimp' to attack our backline in the next turn.

I waited for the JUMP but there was NONE

I knew that the cards were not enough to take down the opponent's plant. The reason why I go wild was to protect the backline from the 'Shrimp' that would likely jump this round. This was also to keep the plant alive if ever they came from the front. The problem was that they just played pumpkin this round wasting our preparation efforts for that 'Shrimp'. The only consolation we had was that we managed to steal an energy from them and getting their plant on the red.

Actually, in the early rounds I thought that they would just break from the front. The reason is that our backline which was the target for backdoor is very tanky and has affinity advantage over aquas. It could be possible if they have something like 'Risky Fish' which raises their attack when dealing when plants but in this case they got 'Angry Lam' instead. So, the only chance for them to kill the backline in one go was to gamble and pray for a crit. But if I were them dealing against a line up like ours, I would just abandon the backdoor option and just demolish everything from the front. They still got a termi which is great even in 2 v1 scenario.

Receiving the 'SHRIMP'

Three energy was not that much because we still had to prepare for the next round. We were hesitant at first because we would only left by just two energies in the next round if we go all out. Luckily, we manage to draw two 'Luna Absorb'. This solved our problem and in this round. We did WSS+Ill-omened+2LA from our backline plant 'Freddy'. We also thought that he might play pumpkin so we also played 'Catapult' from our reptile, just to make sure that we eliminate that tank and open the midline.

After the three card barrage, their plant managed to Last Stand so we made a pass on the following round. With 6 energies and 4 cards on our reptile we were more than willing to sacrifice our backline in case of another shrimp. We have lots of energy so we played 2 'Kotaro'+2 'Tiny Dino' on our reptile and we also chose to spend our remaining 2 energies to protect our plant 'Snacku' with double 'Pumpkin'.

Yesterday we managed to win a 1 v 3 situation which was the opposite situation of what we're in right now. The problem for this termi was that he didn't have enough energy. We had both number and energy advantage. It's important because we could efficiently negate stuns if we have more than one Axie in the field.

Power in Numbers? No Problem!

What we did here was to attack and defend from the front while gaining energy from the back using 'Luna Absorb'. We knew that we couldn't burst this termi down because of the snail shell which would stun for a turn, just chipping off some health was already a significant accomplishment. They torn down our shield letting us draw 2 extra cards because of the effect of 'Bone Sail'.

Mystic rush made our reptile last for this turn so we attacked from the back and managed to bring their health at 47 before entering round 10. They got no heal so at this point we were sure that we already won this game. In the end, we just pass and let them take down the reptile. After that, the bloodmoon curse would do the job of eliminating 50 hp from both us. They only got 47 with no heal so they were so dead after the curse.

Yum.. Tempura 😋

Lol.. took me a while to realise you were talking about yam 😂

Good game you played there, amazed by the amount of energy you can generate haha

Hehe!
Usually, I have lots of energy when battling against Aquas because of Kotaro.
Anyway, do you if the stun effect of 'Snail Shell' is random when attacking it?
Against termi's, I usually play Acro+Luna+Random Card+Random Card to negate the stun but sometimes the stun triggers in the last move. It's rare but it happens.

Snail shell triggers when their shield breaks. So the position you arrange your zero energy card is important. In 1v1, the closest guess you can make is based on the number of cards and energy they have left, most of the time a pure reptile termi puts up 115 or 145 shield. My bird does 120 damage, so if I predict wrongly I waste one energy because of the stun. Midline termis are more difficult to predict because you have no idea how many cards the backline axie draws. Have never seen a random trigger before. Maybe your opponent had a lot of shield put up? Try and pay attention to when the shield breaks next time you come play against snail shell, the stun comes right after you break that axie's shield.

Nice!
I remembered reading the description but it didn't sink in. Haha!
RIP comprehension. Thanks anyways, it sinks in now!
But it is still hard to predict unless you properly track their card usage right?
Seems tedious to me.
Yeah, imagining it, midline is a lot more difficult to predict than the backline.

If its 1v1 and the deck has reset, it becomes easier if they have only 2 energy left. If they have many cards it is quite difficult.
