Axie Origin Builds #2: Tank Aqua

in Axie Buzz3 years ago

We're out here looking for the best Day 1 builds for Axie Origin battles v3.

In my first Axie Origin theorycrafting post I explained the idea of the Bruiser Plant build. Today we're going to take it a step further and look at some very affordable Tank Aquas.

Principles for Buying (Recap)

(1) Look for good, affordable deals.
(2) Simple reliable synergies are probably better than galaxy brain strats for day 1.

What is Tank Aqua?

I noticed that the Anemone cards for Axie Origin seem like they can be decent, and anemone axies have been extremely cheap for a long time. It seems like there are good tanky builds for aquas with anemone that will be easy to scoop before Origin.

This build may or may not end up being as strong as I hope, but I think the value is fantastic given how common some of these combos are right now.

Example 1

The double anemone combo gives a nice balance between free heals (20hp whenever drawn) and attack. 50 damage isn't a ton, but it is better than nothing and you don't have to play it when it isn't worth it. Nimo offers extra energy which can help to offset some of the low offensive value of the anemones.

I think Lam has clear synergy with the healing cards since it does extra damage if your Axie's HP is above 75%. Heal up for free when drawing anemones, then get an attack bonus.

Then Sleepless and Inkling both shuffle debuffs into the opposing discard pile -- and Jinx even deals extra damage later in the match.

Overall this build might have surprising defensive power while still packing an offensive punch.

Example 2

This build has even more healing power thanks to Catfish (aka swallow), which restores HP equal to 50% of unblocked damage, up to 30 health.

Clear offers card cycling which can be a very powerful tool in these kinds of card games, and we still have the inkling ears to Jinx our opponents.

IDK if Navaga is the best fit for the cardset but everything else looks good and it is at a good price. Some damage might not hurt anyway.

Conclusion

Anemone aquas have been cheap for a long time so I don't think it hurts to pick up one or two that might be good for Axie Origin.

The only downside is these Axies are hard to breed with since you basically never want a single anemone part on an Axie, so it's all or nothing. Still these builds seem strong and they might be easy to pilot since self-healing when you draw doesn't seem like a difficult combo to get value from.

As always, it is hard to be sure until we have time to explore the Axie Origin meta. Let me know in the comments what you think of this build -- will anemone be good in Origin?
